What he said. It may take you some time to get it to work the way you want. It isn't exactly user friendly, but it's free so you can't expect much.

Windows key + alt + R (I think this is just windows 10, unless windows 11 has it) just for basic recording. Unless you actually want to stream your gameplay, then yes, OBS.

Shadowplay if you've a decent NVidia card.

I used to use something called Mirillis Action which worked nicely, but it had some issues with some of the games I play, so I instead use OBS and haven't had any problems with it so far.

No need for anything else than Nvidia shadowplay....
just press alt f9 when you have nvidia card and it records
and yeha i did allready use it on my GTX 660 back in the skyrim days when i remember correctly ^^

I use MSI Afterburner mostly as the file size is pretty small. Prior to that I used either Twitch's desktop app or Fraps (though Fraps generates some huge file sizes).

Used to use fraps like 20 years ago, it records uncompressed .avi's iirc so that's why the file sizes are huge.

O would love so much if Nvidia released a tool to cut some parts of our recordings ahah I am not asking for anything fancy like Vegas, just a simple tool to clip a few seconds of a long video within the GFE.

Shadow Play is amazing. Sometimes it is recording and Ii don't even realize until I notices the green dot on the corner of my screen haha I once recorded more than 3 hours of me browsing the net. To think how it is today and how it was way back then when I used FRAPS, then Bandicam... We came a long way.

Honesty would not discourage recommending twitch. Video options are fairly user friendly.
