Can't use spirit summons [Solved]

I have the summoning bell. I've stood next to many summoning statue things, i never get that icon on the left. I have plenty of FP.

I've never used a summon in the game yet and wanted to try it out today. Watched tutorials and looked at guides and nothing is working. Am I missing something??

[Solution pointed out to me: I got mixed up with the summoning pools that allow you to summon players. I thought i was standing next to a spirit ashes statue]

Hmm, strange - the summon areas have these little pillars. Maybe you confuse them with the "summoning pool" statues? Anyway - easy test - the summoning symbol should appear near the golden rider right in the beginning or in any side dungeon boss fight, or in most ruins-type locations. I'd go to one of these and check there.

Spirit summing pools are very small pillars
they are not the same as summoning pools
summoning pools are for real players
their summong signs appear at them and you can summon some random ppl to help

Make sure you have the spirit summon selected in your item bar. You can only summon at certain locations, you'll have a blue icon in your lower left corner. Mostly boss fights.

Summoning pool can be activated so you can do multiplayer, if you play online. This statue looks a bit like a T

The little pillars are present where you can summon spirits - but the icon on the left side will light up before you notice them usually.

The little crucified-person statues are where you can find summon signs for players, not spirit ashes.

Spirit Ashes are only summonable when you are in the prescence of little obelisk markers dotted around the world; you'll note that one is present in basically every boss room, because this is the object enabling spirit ashes in that room.

As shorthand, just check for the bluish gate symbol near the left corner of your screen: If this icon is present, you can use the bell. If it is not present, you can't use the bell.

The statues are like mini open arms statues. The summoning pillars are those little stone ♥♥♥♥♥ everybody keeps leaving messages on top.of.them

Why would you even focus on searching a pillar, when you can just see an icon on the left middle if you can summon spirits, that's it. Same with respawn, it's icon appears also left middle.
