Somber smithing stone bug - it says I have none

Tried to do some research on this but found no solution. I have 2 somber smithing stones in my inventory. When I take it to smithing master hewg in roundable hold to upgrade a weapon, it says I have 0 in my inventory and won't let me. What am I missing? Thanks.

they each have different levels, the level you are trying to gain on the weapon requires a different level of stone than the ones you have - aka look at the [number]

It's not visual on the weapon less the weapon directly needs X example stone. Some take normal, others somber. Pattern is usually in sequence of 2-4-6 of the same stone, while somber goes a more basic direction towards +10.
