ELDEN RING
Rennala, really?....
Oneshot from every attack. No clear dodge pattern, since a lot of times i do the exact same dodge and for some reason it only works 50% of times. First phase that makes you waste 10 minutes and on top on that a long trip to her every time. Is this good boss design?

edit: i did it by summoning a player. Apparently 22 vigor is too low and i was getting 1shot. The problem is i cant wield any str-fai weapon yet and all my offensive attributes are wasted (fai ashes is trash for hybrid build)

another one of these, do people not understand the term git gud?
I beat all souls game and Sekiro, Kuroless as well. Sword saint was much harder than anything in this game, but here bosses are just poorly balanced

I'm a souls vet as well and was thrown for a loop in early/early-mid game. There is a greater emphasis on vigor than prior games. It used to be that stamina was one of the first things you leveled up to be able to dodge, then get levels for the weapon you wanted. Here, investing in health first does a lot for the quality of your experience.

I chalk it up to "New game, new recipe, new strategy"

I mean, thinking you're hot enough to handle a hybrid build when you didn't even think to just infuse a regular longsword with faith to get you over the starting hump is your problem, not the game's
And you are talking from your ass since that's excatly what i did, and i do pitiful dmg with a + 8 longsword with fai ashes
+ 8 is not terribly high level, and as a n aside, you could just use any strength weapon and not worry about faith scaling. you're not at the point in the game where scaling is a big deal, a low upgraded weapon has garbage scaling running off a low base damage.
Aim to beat her first phase in two sequences top. Only kill the golden aura bearers, the more you kill in the middle room, the easier it is for her to spawn the golden aura around some mob that stands in a far away corner, ideally you want all three to be in the center room or close by.

She's vulnerable to bleed and decently susceptible to fire (fire grease is easy to craft early). Apply grease as she falls down and just pummel away. Getting her first phase done quickly isn't hard at all.

For second phase, if you really struggle, roll away from her first casting (it's always the same spell) and use Demihuman ashes, if you have it. 5 creatures pummeling at her should be enough to keep her perma-staggered, more or less, as she is very susceptible to it and the majority of her attacks can be interrupted.

You can get a talisman to buff your magic resistance and mebbe level up some more your Vig from a cave in the weeping peninsula (north side, iirc)

Most of her magic attacks are more easily avoided by running around her rather than spamming dodge. Generally if you run around and toward her, her magic has a very hard time tracking.

Also, level vigor to at least 30, preferably 40. Vigor scaling is not linear and every point in vigor gets you more HP than the last point up to level 40. Vigor level 10 to 20 gets you 238 more HP, 20 to 30 gets you 342 more HP, 30 to 40 gets you 456 more HP.

Nvm i ended summoning and we did it . Thank you to those giving real answers and not spouting "git gud" cringe
She's an incredibly easy boss, the hardest attack she has is the spirit summons and even that isn't much of a deal.

Didnt know vigor was that important in this game. I only had 22 so i think that's was the problem. The real issues btw stems from the fact that Fai hybrid build is so weak early compared to any other builds, especially stratus ones
This has got to be a joke thread.
She is easier than normal mobs.

Actually i almost never got hit by her summons, only by her stupid magic projectiles, and i have tried everything, from running to dodging, but it never seemed to be consistent

I think you need more vigor. :)
Sorry but this game is unbalanced af. I pumped all stats in str and fai to wield the golden axe (cant wield it yet) so i neglected vigor wich is only 22. How i'm supposed to beat the boss if i explored the whole limgrave and a lot of Liurnia and didnt drop a single fai scaling weapon?

To each their own. Everyone's experience is different, so you gotta figure out what works for you.

I fought Rennala with 12 vigor. I also neglected vigor in order to boost str + end to wield the weapons I wanted to.

If you have faith, are you casting magic resistance? Are you wearing magic resisting accessories? That's what I had to do given my low vigor.

well ty, this is the first time i summon to beta a boss in any soul game for first playthrough
If you're not used to fromsoft games and how to properly level stats, Rennala can be a bit punishing, it all depends on your build. Good news is, once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to respec your attributes to your liking; bad news is, you absolutely have to beat Rennala first.
While phase 1 is pretty easy (find the scholar with a "bubble" around her, kill her, repeat once or twice then punish Rennala who just crashed to the floor), I'd advise to use spirit ashes to help you in phase 2 (in phase one they'd just be confused by the many enemies to focus on). If you have one, prefer spirits that summon only one mob that can take a proper beating. With multiple mobs (like wolves or semi-humans) Rennala would focus on too many things, making windows of opportunity harder to notice. If you can, use strength weapons that hit hard, as she's easily staggered (jump attack is your friend). If you play dexterity, quick strikes and bleeding works well. Defense-wise, there's a bellfry in Liurnia that can take you to an end-game place (well, outside of it, but with a great view), and there you can find a talisman that gives protection against non-physical damage, which would help against Rennala.
As for the trip back to her, it's a bit long, yes, but you're never really in danger, and I think this is the one place where it's okay not to have a Marika statue. I think she hates Marika, who took her husband away from her, hence why there are no statue of Marika near her. A little frustrating, sure, but I think it's a nice detail that blends well with the lore.

You can infuse most weapons with ash of war of your choice and scale it to your main stat.

The problem being you don't get ones that allow for faith scaling until much later, but yes.
You get like 2 in Limgrave though.
"A long trip and then 10 minutes first phase."

I guess I played a different Renalla
1st phase, hit the crawling bastards with gold bubble, every third bubble destroyed, the boss becomes voulnerable for about 15 seconds. You should be able to get her to 2nd phase by 2-3 cycles.

2nd phase, let her cast her spell, go in and hit her once or twice, then get out. Keep moving, until there a small interval after spell casts. Repeat until dead. Ignore summons.
