How much do you have to hit something to make it bleed?
I am using a whip currently... Thorned Whip +14 or 15.
It has an innate Bleeding buildup of 45 and I have infused it with Ashes for cold damage and better Dex/Int scaling. So it's also dealing 75 or 79 Frostbite buildup.

I just fought a boss in the underground (beneath Liurnia)... he might have been Thor. He was throwing lightning around.
I did die once to Frostbite though.

But almost 100% of the damage I dealt to him was with my Whip. (Just for the heck of it, I chucked 11 Fire Pots at his feet since they seemed to do good damage to him).

So yeah... I whipped it. I whipped it real good.

But he didn't bleed.

usually 3-4 hits should proc the status effect

may depend on the targets resistances

Bleed isn't a dot...once it hits 100% it deals a massive chunk of damage.

first of all not all bosses can bleed so it could be that the boss was simply immune. when you hit a mob with a bleed weapon it fills an invisible bar which goes down with time, when it is full it deals a percentagebased chunk of damage. so if there is to much time bethween hits it takes longer or is not possible to make him bleed. if you want a better bleed build up with spells or melee weapons with bleed it is worth to build up arcane since it increases the build up numbers or bleed.

Exceed the enemy Robustness stat to trigger Bleed. Keep natural decay in mind. Bleed does 15%+100 max hp as dmg.

Ah. I was expecting a DoT like Poison.
Maybe the Bleed DID work and I just didn't notice then.

You want to have close or above 100 bleed build-up on your weapon in order to reliably proc it. It usually takes 4 to 6 hits to get one bleed proc but this can vary on boss you fight. It was also mentioned that you need to make sure you are hitting constantly or without large delays as status build up is reducing over time.

I'm not sure if the whip I am using can get up that high.
After bumping it up to +14, the Bleeding seems to remain at 45. But the Frostbite effect has gone up.

Maybe it's cuz of my Ash of War.
Apparently both Bleeding and Frostbite deal a chunk of damage when the meter fills up, so I am unable to tell when one was triggered over the other.

But yeah, I am aware of the declining status bar. I have defeated many world bosses by rapidly sticking them with poisoned arrows. :D

For inherent status to scale you need a status infusion first and then add Occult.
