Malenia nerfed?

At 120 hours I finally made my way to Malenia this morning. Having read from multiple sources that she is the most difficult boss in any FromSoft game I was mentally prepared to be stuck in the fight for days, and looked forward to the sweet sense of satisfaction and relief when finally beating her

Well, I beat her on my second try and couldn't believe it. I feel disappointed and baffled - that was IT? The best fight in the game was THAT fight?

Is my character overpowered at lvl 130, or has the boss been nerfed since all the horror stories? Have I finally "got gud"? Running a melee build with no magic or shield.

If you happened to have a decent build with enough VGR then you could find her easier than let say Maliketh or Elden Beast.

My first build was an INT one and she was super hard.
My second build was a standard VGR+STR+END with dual wielding bleed weapons and she was a piece of cake. Killed on second try no problems.

I stated my reasons, it's more than an obvious after fighting her the first time her AI was different when I fought her again months later. it's not even similar, so if you fought her post nerf both times you wouldn't notice the difference, but I can guarantee she is neutered.

based on the hp she healed on the first waterfowl dance alone, that seems post patch, check out older clips of her healing, and you can see the health bump is much higher when she full combo's.

she also didn't use waterfowl or the range phantom spawning spell, but those used to be guaranteed. in phase one when she got to half she stops everything and goes right to waterfowl cancelling stagger and animations, she is supposed to in phase two as well, at least once each attack. your build was much more optimized to mine though, so I don't think you would have issue either way, tbh

There were crybabies the first few weeks after release about her, people rarely talk about her now since she has been figured out. She is a difficult fight but she is not THAT difficult.

I'm experienced but not great at souls-like and her healing made this fight just cruel for me since I usually allow for trading some against aggro bosses. even mimic tear wasn't viable since I couldn't figure out how to chain stun her, and if you didn't she just heals off the mimic. I even figured out the thrust WA's were effective and bloodhound was good for waterfowl (at least sometimes for me), but I resorted to spamming night comet and felt like a fraud after. the second playthrough I went with the warhawk since he could stun her and wasn't tanky enough to heal her, plus she didn't hit him easily unless she one shot him. So, with that I finally looked up the dodge method for her waterfowl (on my second playthrough, mind you) and I was able to beat her "legit", amazing feeling even if I looked up the waterfowl dodge. the third playthrough it was immediately noticeable she wasn't the same. I even refought her without killing her a few times to confirm. She did Waterfowl less, healed less, and paused more between attacks to allow for healing. I just got her low poking her when her openings were available, and since she didn't spam her waterfowl or "windshield wiper" move I still can't dodge I had no issue. I knew all her moves after the first ten hours fighting her on the first playthrough, use thrusting WA's and bloodhound, but still had to cheese here. on the 3rd playthrough it was like the fight got neutered entirely, so I beat her easily. I don't know if it's better, but it's definitely a change in her AI and healing.

I beat her on my third try without using moonveil or mimic. And it was my first and only playthrough so far and I did not look up any tactics on the boss fight. I used the same gear and approach I had used for the previous 30 hours.

I had two colossal weapons - Fallingstar Beast Jaw in right hand and Ghiza's Wheel in the left hand. Both were on rank 10. And I used the Black Knife Tiche ashes.

I platinum'd that game, it's not a matter of hard. original Malenia was garbage and got nerfed. simple.

There is a lot videos and thread about the nerf, but Bandai Namco didn't give details. 1.03 has "other enemy and weapons changes" so they aren't putting full details. Saw a video by Les Waste that showed it better than I can.

Bloodhound step f.e makes the fight 20 times easier
Did you use summon spirit ashes ?
Sometimes she bugs out and does nothing all fight

If you did beat her 2nd try solo, true melee, no BH step , no spirit summons without having seen her moveset before

congrats i wonder why you not famous no hit runner ?
since you obviously did better than all the best players known in the souls community

Also, consider sometimes boss have a more passive state (where people at forum mentioned they beaten her when she did not use certain moves or not too much and they were lucky to beat her on their lucky run) . . . so there is that too, maybe he was just very lucky to have her on a lucky very passive state too (and also maybe he played her in a way that makes her even less aggressive or more passive, what I usually do if the host is not being stupid and luring Malenia to him/her-self too much).
