She gave herself to the god of rot so she could try and be on equal footing with radahn.
She most likely didn't want to use it at all. Using it is likely what triggered that accelerated progression of rot taking over her body. She knew she couldn't beat Radahn in a straight up fight, so she pulled a desperation move.
But in the end, She still lost more then Radahn did. Radahn lost his mind but he's still worshiped by his people. He still wanders his lands and holds up the stars. His people still fight back against the Rot and hold festivals towards him even years later.
While Malenia was tricked by a god, Her brother was stolen from her. She had to be carried away. Her body is slowly rotting away leaving her in constant agony. She just sits, waiting for the return of someone who will never come back. In a tree that is just as dead inside as she is. Nobody to worship her. Nobody to carry on her legacy. She would of died, Alone and miserable, Waiting for the return of someone who likely forgets she even exists.
