If I remember correctly once you bring the needle to Gowry he sends you to Millicent. You hand the needle to her and she passes out. She will then leave for Gowry's shack and find him dead (I think).
Didn't you have the option to give her the needle?
I had no options. I got the unalloyed thing, but went to unlock Sellia first before even meeting him. I explored all the way to the church of plague where Millicent is and talked to her until she told me to go away. THEN I went back to Gowry's shack and he has not appeared even after reloads. So no.
Reading here he shouldn't be gone before you give the needle to Milli as I remembered tho.
May it be the case that he was killed by the dog nearby? Did you ever fight near his shack?
I'm betting this is related to me opening the sellia gate without him telling me, maybe that's a trigger for him going away and not speaking with him first.
Oh well.
If you fought near the shack I think you might have just been unlucky and had some attack clip through the walls and hit him.
It almost happened to me once, the dog shoved his mutt through the backwall right next to Gowry as I was speaking to him. With all the noise the dog makes I think it may be very easy to not notice the sound of Gowry die during combat.
Maybe absoution? I'm not clear if it can resurrect NPCs or not...
the sellia gates have actually nothing to do with the quest. they are just a bonus info for players who dont check around or never look up.
