Do not be a Mule
This is a problem that seems to be impacting some. In short, do not transfer items for strangers. Do not pick up items from strangers. Do not take candy from strangers (except on Halloween). I did not realize how big of an issue this was, else I would have made this post earlier.

Legitimate gamers are being used by cheaters, to transfer illegitimate items in the game. They do this, because they believe it is a good way to circumvent getting caught. Do not be a Mule.

To be honest, I didn't really know that you can mod this game nor did I search for other methods beforehand. I only wanted to use cheat engine to modify the numbers of souls to upgrade my level. I didn't have any intention of beating up other players
99% of all mods trigger an instant softban, cheat engine will trigger a permanent ban OR, you will be forced into the cheater only servers, paired with other cheat engine users or any other mod/cheat users.

The only SAFE alternative is using a Mule, which even that has a chance of getting you banned, but has low odds.

I tried wemod on Ds1 remastered to try it out and got banned so it's defo not safe for ds games.
I used WeMod briefly on DS1, then deleted all char data afterwards, went online, no bans, so it's generally safe as long as you delete all char data after you're done.

Wish just limit trading to only non special items and armour

Wanna drop so can cosplay your entire playthrough? Fine. But all current system does is enable twinking, get players banned who had no clue item was invalid, and deprive new players from actually learning the game and earning these items

I just pick and choose wisely
I would rather to give someone that they need in case if I don't need it, because I've acquired lots of needed stuff, and I asked at least once to grab item I sold, thinking I don't need it. But of course, I would like to ask where are they in progression before, because I would not give anyone Rivers of blood for example, if someone is at the start of the game.

But what I can suggest, before actually taking a risk on getting stuff, backup the save, in case of bamboozle, ALT+F4 and place that save back.

Probably wont work as the save is flagged quicker than you can Alt F4. Best way drop for others you trust but dont accept anything from someone you just met

I can see it now... hosts hiding in a tower that's only accessible by a horse... phantoms appearing in a field... surrounded by dropped items all around them... no explanation...

Go on... you know you want to...

It's too late to stop twinking. People will get on here and claim honor like "well I just cosplay," or "I only do it against people who are also twinking" but 1 hour with TT on a low level character at First Step and you will see 99% of invaders are using end game weapon arts/items/spells with full flask upgrades. Can you get those items by playing through at low level? Yeah, but 99% aren't doing that, don't even try that logic. This is why people are actively ruining the pvp scene now by going to hiding spots, if they bring enough attention to this issue fromsoft will have to do something, be it seperate lobbies for people who want pve vs pvp or disabling dropping items altogether. But I don't even think the latter option would work because so many have already twinked their characters to hell.

I really hope that the future of the pvp scene for ER gets better but it is in such a bad place right now, at least in my opinion as an avid fan of previous dark souls pvp experiences.

isnt there a hackerman that injects the items straight into your inventory ?

id assume the hackerman that needs a "mule" for their "illegal" items isnt smart enough to make a trade post from their steam account

while it may not violate some steam ToS - it definitely wont make them look good
if someone gets banned after hackerman asked for a mule on the forums

This cannot be done anymore. It was fixed a while ago.

That should be common knowledge for anyone playing games online.

Thanks for spreading the word.
