Elden Ring is packed with enough content to keep players coming back for well upwards of 50 hours. It may then surprise players to know that, in the grand scheme of things, the open world isn't all that big. At 30.5 square miles, or 79 square kilometers, it is bigger than the map of some classic open-world games like Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto 5, but it still falls short of plenty others.

At 15 square miles, Skyrim’s world is huge, but there are bigger

Skyrim without mods is a 5/10 game.

I enjoyed ER more. I'm more of a single playthrough guy

Between those two? Elden Ring.

I'll go out on a limb and say TES V: Skyrim is one of the weakest Elder Scrolls games. Bastardized and removed nearly everything that made games like Morrowind or Daggerfall (my personal favourite) great just to cater to a larger audience that cannot handle the tiniest bit of item management or pay attention to the game's story.

Stats like that really beg a question, how did they come across that number? Easiest way is to get the width and length of the game world's extreme points and just make a square. Guess what? That is the source of the 79km^2 number. https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/t2iq7d/elden_rings_map_is_79_km2_in_size_bigger_than_gta/

That number includes the inaccessible seas, the massive area in the middle that is inaccessible and more.

Skyrim has a lot deeper interaction, far more focused on quests, and has a better engine, that let's modders create a 100x bigger content (it's incredible, worth checking out if you haven't yet). It's designed to be a PC game from the core, so no FPS cap, better controls. The world is also massive, bigger than ER, and it's filled with events (something that ER lacks). ER is basically an action game. RPG is not about stats and gear collecting. In Skyrim you go to Winterhold college and interact with many NPCs with varying personality, different mages, tutors and apprentices, a lot of quests to do. In ER, you go to Rya Lucaria, ♥♥♥♥ everything up and loot them. That's the difference.

-has a better engine
Skyrim has a HORRIBLY outdated and bugged to hell engine...
-FPS cap
So does Skyrim, they only undid that with the Special Edition
-better controls
Skyrim has horrible gameplay and controls....
-filled with events (something that ER lacks)
So does Elden Ring... Did you even play the game?>
-ER is basically an action game
Again, so does The Elder Scrolls... If you think The Elder Scrolls is more RPG than Action Games, then you're dreaming.
-The world is also massive, bigger than Elden Ring
That's debatable.

The only thing that makes Skyrim even playable is the mods, without them Skyrim is one of the most broken bug filled and hallow games out there.

I'm not sure you've played either game?
Yea about 400 hrs in ER and 300 in Skyrim. Skyrim engine comes with creation engine, which allows so many mods, that's why I said it's better, but by default both ER and TES engine are bag of ♥♥♥♥.

In ER, the events you get is a few NPCs you an talk to, for the rest it's just the world that wants to kill you, that's it. In Skyrim you get millions of quests and encounters, even patrols that engage you based on reputation, outfit etc. ER is nowhere near that level in terms of RPG interactions and events.

Skyrim has far better controls, we can select and bins any spells/skill to any keys we want. ER was designed for consoles and then got emulated to KB, and it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible, we have to cycle spells/skills/weapons in brackets to use. If you deny that, then you are either deliberately or subconsciously trolling.

The world can be made much bigger with mods, that's my argument here, base Skyrim is a buggy mess of a subpar game at best, but thanks to modding community and spending a month learning and modding your game, it can be a real RPG, that should have been released and should be made by developers.

In Skyrim i recently tried a run with a few restrictions, one of them being no map fast travel.
You would think it would only make the game slower and boring because of the traveling.
But it really made the game a lot more fun.
You have to plan your movement and you can still pay money to travel with carriages to the major locations.
The adventuring experience was much better.

try playing skyrim without deaths and fast travel thats how my bro plays it... even with bug death he starts new game

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Ymfah's no walk run of Skyrim

Both of these games are different, I play Soulsborne and Elder Scrolls for different reasons, neither is better especially if you consider the age difference between Skyrim and Elden Ring. Now if you compare Skyrim to Oblivion, Morrowind etc. that may possibly be easier to judge. Also I skimmed the thread, so I'm sorry if this comparison point has already been made.

I remember the days of big map competitions. It was all about bigger-the-better, instead of quality.
I'm glad game companies start putting more thought into the space they create.

That's funny, because Elden Ring has A LOT in common with Morrowind and for a lot of The Elder Scrolls fans, Morrowind is the best game.

So you are basically in the minority, even among The Elder Scrolls fans.

Most ES fans have never touched Morrowind and of those that did "a lot" of them think it's too dated, most people are going to say the best game is Oblivion or Skyrim.

Those fans would be wrong, though.

Almost like it's a subjective opinion or something.

would they though? if they remade both morrowind and oblivion with at least quality of life options maybe at least oblivion could be good again
Marcy 13/abr./2022 às 9:09
The only two things they have in common is a big open world with lots of side content, and that they both run like ♥♥♥♥.
