RULES FOR PVP DUELS
Unspoken rules of DUELING (not invasions) and disregarding these rules is maidenless behavior...

RULES:
- Crimson tears is not allowed
- Cerulean tears is allowed
- Allow at least 1 buff before engaging your opponent
- Gesture to acknowledge your opponent
- Wondrous physick is allowed HOWEVER, using wondrous physick to heal is considered cheating as it cannot be distinguished from using Crimson Tears
- (More of a suggestion than a rule) you should chug all Crimson Tears before starting a duel in order to not mistakenly heal mid duel
- Do not be a sore winner (mocking opponent after victory)
- Do NOT attack the host of a fight club
- Protect each other from invaders
- Wait until your opponent is ready before attacking them (Unless they are applying multiple buffs)
- Have fun

You can bet your bottom dollar someone's going to "-Have fun" by disrespecting every rules you just listed.

Stop telling people how to play the game.

Here is my rule, I kill you, you die. Get out of here with this oh so honorabruh ♥♥♥♥.

If they are unspoken, why would you speak them? I don't consider these as rules for people who invade others on purpose as you enter in the arena and know the consequences of your actions if you invade a group of 3 and expect to allow them to 1v1 you.

I summon for duel and hide in tree form as an opponent appears only to shed my clever disguise and cast Comet Azur as soon as he turns his back on me
the physick flask has a different sound effect than crimson tears flasks, so yes they are easily distinguishable.

if you allow cerulean tears to be used but not crimson tears, you are rigging the game in favor of casters, in which case; have fun with your "fight club".
either both are allowed or none of them are, otherwise you are deliberately putting one player at major disadvantage.

also the word you are looking for in relation to "sore winners" is "gloating"... a part of gaming that is what makes it fun. if your loss is not followed by a small amount of humiliation, you're less likely to learn what you did wrong.
in fact, i would argue that if you bow honorably before an opponent you defeated despite him pulling off a very bad move, you are just indulging him in his lack of skill, essentially telling him he fought well, when you know damn well that wasn't the case.

invaders are not a problem in fight clubs because you can't have more than 1 enemy player in a game at a time unless you use taunters tongue, in which case you have directly invited invasions upon yourself. its not a duelists' tool.

Not sure why everyone keeps adding to the honor rule list, the honor rules were the same since og demon souls.

No attacking your opponent until your opponent consents somehow.
By bowing, block spam or aggressive movement.

No consumables that heal HP.

No leaving the area in which you are dueling in.

Also, we arent telling people how to have fun.

We're telling people how to have proper ettique for dueling, if one wants to participate in duels.

every soulslike game before elden ring no longer matters solely due to the massive influx of new players into the franchise..
Elden Ring has broken all records set by previous titles combined, and to expect millions of people to follow arbitrary rules you've set in place based on archaic notions of "back in my day"-rules is just ridiculous.

are you going to defend the cycle-through system as well based on the fact that this has been the system used in all previous titles? its a garbage system. it should be changed (especially for those who play the game on PC) and it should be welcomed by literally everyone who wants to make the game less bad.
same goes for the flippant camera in this game. should be changed and nobody should argue against, especially if said argument is based on nothing but "back in my day".

Bro, I'm just talking about the dueling, not the game as a whole.
And for dueling, there hasn't been a big enough change to warrant any new changes to the honor system.

Is Bloodhound step allowed?
Would love to try a duel, but I heard that most hosts kick out anyone using Bloodhound step?

People do kick other people out, but it's not as common as people make it out to be.

ah so there in fact more unspoken rules than the ones you mentioned, and even more arbitrary depending on what host you run into.
nice.

kinda reminds me of "honorable duel servers" in Mordhau where server hosts would just outright ban certain weapons/shields in order to rig the game in their own favor.
i particularly remember being kicked for using a kite shield because the host got frustrated that he couldn't just sledgehammer me to death.

Okay, I will admit I do not PvP nor hold any interest whatsoever in it (Though I'd follow said rules if I participate). However, those complaining about such need to realise, that the bulk of the player base aren't made up of souls veterans nor will they even know of the Rules established by the original fan base, nor do they even read the steam forums. Your best bet is: if they heal, you heal. If they start running at you before buffing (or bowing) go ham on them, If they attack the host, then you and the host slap them down. If you have previous experience in such games, then you should have a easy time slapping down the newcomers.
