Elden Ring vs Witcher 3
Please don't start a flame war...just curious why people think Witcher 3/Elden Ring is better than the other. I have my personal preference here ofc, but won't be mentioning it to avoid bias.
Let's have a civilized video game discussion.

Witcher 3 is better if you value story over gameplay

Sure, you don't want to start a flame war. Methinks that's exactly what you want. There's no other reason for threads like this.

Why does it even matter which game is better to begin with. Both games is fun. Also you didn't give any substance to your post.... at least give your opinion on which is better and why if you're going to make a post like this.

Witcher 3 obviously wins hands down for story and seeing a more diverse world. The combat is a bit bland to me, tbh, though and while the skill tree offers greater customization it also aggravates me since it could have been more interesting.

Elden Ring feels more rewarding to explore though, and PvE (not bosses) feel better to engage with despite being so repetitive. Bosses feel overly sloppy, about equally bad with Witcher 3. In contrast, Witcher 3 punishes you very hard for exploring because all the good loot you find too early gets downscaled to junk levels permanently. The more you find early the more you screw yourself over. Meanwhile, I've never had a single instance in Witcher 3 where I felt rewarded, ever, by any loot/discovery in the game due to the loot issue plus none of the loot is unique/interesting (it could have used more extreme designs like Borderlands or Diablo 3 with its loot system). I felt totally punished for exploring and it ended up being incredibly uninteresting. Towns look cool but don't actually have anything in them basically... so they don't really feel alive while Elden Ring has no real towns at all...

Witcher 3 apparently is very long but I've never completed it because it didn't interest me much, personally, and the story isn't to my taste though I get why people like it.

I'd consider them mostly equal though the lack of meaningful reason to do anything aside from main story for Witcher 3 really turned me off to the extent I'll definitely never go back and finish it.

Now the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise... That is something I thoroughly enjoyed far more than both of these, personally at least.

I mostly played the witcher 3 main quests...other ones felt a bit chore. But the story was really good and worth playing through.

Elden Rings a better game...

Witcher 3 was great for starting to break the mold of fetch quest open world gaming but kinda didn't deliver on that front with all the ? marks...even the side quests felt a bit fetchy minus the extra story involved with them.

Elden Ring somehow organically ties in 100 hours of just plain exploring...the quests aren't even quests but situation you stumble upon. They're not thrown in your face but serve as natural events based on what you happen to stumble upon in your playthrough.

As much of a big game as the Witcher 3 is...it's main game is no longer than 50-60 hours without all those question marks. Fetching those is worse than anything Elden Ring has to offer(besides the Elden Beast)

Also...Geralts character customization sucks in comparison...I'm running a cave woman rn in Elden Ring...I've read about people playing as Thor..others are Reapers......the weapons, stats and spells make Elden Rings character customization endless. The Witcher 3s all got Geralts...Geralts with a lot of potions or just a little...Gerelt with strong aard or igni. All the builds are the same...besides some skills strength being stronger and some weaker in others

imo TW3's combat is fine for about 20 mins. after that its mind numbingly boring and bland. there's VERY little variety to what you can do combat wise.
i also loathed the loot system where everything was scaled to or near to your level. whenever i went exploring id find a weapon (for example) and it was worse than what i was already using BUT if i just left it there instead of looting it and came back to get it in a few levels time it would be an upgrade. hated it.
also never been a fan of map systems filled with a billion icons showing you were everything you haven't discovered yet is. let me find it myself!
other than that i thought TW3 was fantastic and i played it lots.

ER i think does a far far better job of world exploration, discovery and traversal.
combat while ive never been a huge fan of the darksouls system it at least has much more variety and options than TW3
i love the way they did the map. where its all purely visual cue's and it doesn't slap icons all over it until you've explored and discovered them yourself. by far the best way to go about it imo. encouraging exploring the world. instead of running from 1 icon to the next.

both games have awesome music.

story / lore and how its presented to the player is more of a personal taste thing imo. 2 very different methods of delivering the narrative to the player.
TW3 is more of the standard thats been adopted by nearly every game on the market where its dialogue / cut scene heavy and closer to a movie with game play between scenes.

i have no issues with that method of story telling it works well.

needing to 'earn' the narrative in Elden Ring through finding and reading all the backstory on items and visual cue's in the world and piece the puzzle pieces of the larger narrative together yourself. is also fantastic and i like it very much and for me I remember far more of the story and get far more invested in it when i have to put in work and time to get it. ER story and lore is quite deep and very complex. most people wont piece together 10% of it themselves.
but i can understand why its not everyone's fave method.

all in all both games have their points of contention and both are none the less fantastic games made for a largely different player base. not every game is made for everyone and nor should they be.

Elden Ring an Witcher 3 are both excellent games, and it really does depend on what games in which you are more interested.

As far as story and lore goes, I think Witcher 3 blows Elden Ring out of the water. With my experience with Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring, I've felt that story has been always been lacking. But I also find that its not really the point of those games. Yes, there is some great lore, but it doesn't really compare to a very story driven game like the Wither 3.

I find games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls to be a challenge that takes more strategy and time to accomplish than the Witcher. Where as, the Witchers story was much more intriguing and pulled you in.

Story/Lore/Character development are all better for Witcher 3.

Gameplay/Exploration/Fighting Strategy are all better for Elden Ring
