I think its on evil purpose. But you're right, its annoying.
I couldnt believe it.
WHEN YOU MOVE THE MOUSE SIDE TO SIDE >>> it changes targets.
WTF....
SERIOUSLY WTF.
its why I use rot breath and AOE .
So i can be close enough ...
Absolute crap!!
Also the targeting system is relative to the current direction the avatar is facing ..not you
chrst !!
you need to turn the avatar to face what you want to target in a 3rd person view game...
Sure in first person with cross hairs in the center of the screen ok ...
But if i want to run away and look over my shoulder and target ... I cant ..
if you look off center and hit target lock ..the avatar spins around... so if you are running away .. try to target over you shoulder ... it will spin you 180 you start running toward the mob.... it didnt target ...
Its the biggest boss in elden ring .... the Loathsome Dung Controls
I don't ever play with controllers on other games and I have no interest in buying a controller just for this when it will cost as much as I payed for the game itself.
If/when you use target lock, leave the camera controls alone(after you set your focus on your desired target). You will have no control over the camera anymore, the sole purpose of moving the mouse or the right stick is to change the target.
How would you improve the current solution? Removing the option to change the target? Let them players use a second mouse/3rd stick?
I disagree with your first point. You often want to be able to move the camera to keep track of what multiple opponents are doing without unlocking from your current target to maintain situational awareness.
My recommended fix would be a button to press to cycle targets based on proximity working from targets closest to targets further away. For Honor uses this system and it works well.
Targeting is done relative to screen view , the player not the avatar ...
So targeting is done from what i see , not me imagining what the avatar sees.
Also Target lock stays on the current target. It never changes it CAN"T unless you
1) Drop target
2)Move to next target
3)It dies, after death no target.
You should be able to move left
while turning your head right
and target off your right shoulder , right now that would cause a random target switch to who knows.
The game is designed to put you into a death spiral around a target, locks your camera on a pivot point so now you just need to push left right to start going in circles , i get it .
Target from my perspective !!!!
Not the avatar perspective....
I want to target the mage in the group.
Turn my back on them and run 15 feet and crouch behind something.
when i spin back around....... guess what ... Im still targeting the person i want to kill not some random deer , or a bird , or that bird on the rock sitting beside the mage ...stay on my target !!!! FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its not so much target lock.
Its like you throw a rope around the target ... you are now tied to it and all your moves are relative to it. No longer the world or you. It is now your focus point ... Like having your belt tied with a rope to a stake in the ground.
The major problem is the game should never change my target ...ever !!!
My feet and head should work independently.
When i look behind me to see if the second crucible knight is going to impale me or if it is still on my summon I shouldn't lose my target. I definitely shouldn't start targeting the slug 200 feet across the map.
