Something To Scratch That Itch
What the title says. It does not have to be Fromsoft, but I would like to experience more of their works or similar works. I currently am looking at all Fromsoft games, both Surges, both Niohs, both Niers, Lords Of The Fallen, Dragons Dogma, Code Vein, Mortal Shell, and Remnant: From The Ashes. I want all of your best takes and opinions no wrong answers. GO!

Edit: I wanna thank everyone who has chimed in so far. I've received so many new suggestions and a much better understanding of the games I listed.

Go back in time to King's Field and Shadow Tower. Armored Core even.

Nier automata and dragons dogma are one of the best games ive ever played.
also loved Kings Field 4 which i played earlier this year on emulator but u need the right version (NTSC i think for 60fps) and the widescreen/aspect ratio fix patch. it has some features we later came to love in demons souls and darksouls like its looping leveldesign with countless shortcuts, illusionary walls. it even has some features that surpass future fromsoftgames like the leveling of weapons by simply hitting targets and unlocking sword magic with em. theres underwater sections, its first person, and has one of the best soundtracks ever

Strong vote for Hollow Knight. You already named most I can think of. Even tho I dont like Dragons Dogma and LotF.

If you like the boss fighting aspects of said games. Monster Hunter series ofc should be obvious.

Lords of the fallen was never really fixed. The game is fun when it works, but for me it still crashed alot when playing. Most crashes came from upgrading that wrist cannon and using it in combat. It is a good souls like with good challenging bosses when it works.

If you 're looking for a similar game go with DS3. All of them are good but that is the most refined and with some neat qol improvements. The best combat imo can be found in Sekiro but it is quite different - only one weapon, tighter combat cadence, expanded traversal options. It is my favorite even after playing ER just because it's such a cohesive, tight experience.

Of the rest, I recommend Dragon's Dogma. Very different game compared to Souls but also sporting excellent combat and some exhilarating encounters. Think of it as a cross between Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry.

They're masterworks all, you can't go wrong.

Haven't played it yet but people claim Ashen is good.

Can second Automata as being incredibly solid. Not the biggest fan of having 2B's ass in my face the entire time (and I preferred the previous Nier--specifically Dad Nier, rather than the bishonen mess they foisted on us with the remake), but the game itself is stupidly well done.

...the "twist" in the story is roughly as clever (and as easy to see coming a hundred miles off) as a Shyamalan plot, but super solid game play, and the soundtrack is a solid wall of bangers.

Get Vampyr imo. It has multiple approaches on how to play. Vampire is easy mode, trying to stay human and not feeding on humans makes the game super hard at times. The bosses are challenging fun and at times very difficult. You have to explore, solve mysteries, create medicine for sicK people. The more people that die in game, the darker and worse the world becomes.
the whole game long i had Bloodborne vibes.

I never liked LotF to be honest. It's like they tried to copy Dark Souls without understanding what made those games fun and addicting. Same problem they had with their subsequent games, The Surge 1 and 2. They're clumsy and feel hard for the sake of being hard.

The best are still from Fromsoft. DSIII if you don't have it is super close to Elden Ring gameplay wise. No open world, but I think that is a plus in that its a much more streamlined experience. And there is Bloodborne if you have PS. Sekiro is the similar but the most different in terms of combat/progression for any in the Fromsoft series or clones. DS II is good, but original DS might appear a bit long in the tooth at this point compared to the newer titles.

Mortal Shell is pretty decent but super short. It stays very close to the DS formula but with a few different takes. Story is very DS-like overall pretty good. World is designed as a central hub branching off in short-ish linear dungeons. But standout artwork and soundtrack.

Nioh 1 and 2 are DS-like but, IMO, just too much extras added. The combat is much faster paced and reminds me more of a spectacle-style fighter than straight up DS. Its all about weapon upgrade paths and memorizing button combos. And its got big looter elements in it. Not so great in that it encourages exploration because just about anything you find is obsolete in a further two missions. But if you like its style of combat its very good. But biggest difference is that its not a continuous world like in DS. All areas are basically standalone maps that you select--and there is a bit of repetition with them as well.

There's a lesser known one called Hellpoint, which might scratch your itch too. It's a dark sci-fi sort of game, pretty solidly constructed too.
I think remnant is pretty underrated, but it doesn't have nearly as many thrilling combat sequences as the souls series games. It's still enjoyable, though.
