Dual halberd/naginata builds.
Nothing really wrong with it, I just hate playing against it because it's the perfect hardcounter to my Dragon Communion caster build. All of my spells are so slow that you can simply cast on reaction and effectively prevent me from ever using any of them*. I basically just don't get to use my build when it's in play, and that's super frustrating imo.
*dragonmaw can HA through it, and the initial burst of Placidusax outspeeds it if you jump, but these are very niche scenarios.
I'd say win rate is about 50/50, just like any other match trying to trade blows or parry with ROB. It's just much, much more satisfying when you do win after kiting for 3 - 5 minutes. That rarely happens though. Most folks rage-quit.
Anything Bleed-focused.
Bloodhound’s Step.
“I cast Stars of Ruin! Then, I cast Stars of Ruin! Then, I cast…”
Colossal Sword Pokespam. Not as difficult to deal with tbh, but it is indeed a huge nuisance.
5 minutes of buffing. After 3, I’m just gonna start swinging.
Fingerprint Shield + Heavy Rapier.
Honorable Mention! Animation Skip exploiters, using the sprinting Catch Flame then Theodrix’s Magma, or the equivalent Sorceries. Extreme dishonor.
Finally, Status Effect crossbows. Triple Trina Bolt is beyond obnoxious.
Dragon Communion is a bit scummy in PvP, since 80% of it is undodgeable mile-long Dragon breaths. I think the palm and bite are cool, though.
Also. Placidusax’s Ruin ISN’T Dragon Communion. It’s a Dragon Cult incantation, and it gets buffed by the Gravel Stone Seal.
Join me, brother. Respec. Grab two Gravel Stone Seals. Zap. Zap. Zap!!
Nobody really uses it, man. I can see it being problematic at lower levels, maybe, but I sincerely don’t see it being an issue at 40 vigor.
It’s just annoying that there is no warning before it shoots, but that’s all crossbows, which also load faster and can trigger status effects.
you can counter fingerprint shield with ice spear ash. it goes straight through shield if you are very close to them. I think RKR is also good against it now, but i haven't tried it
It is unreasonable to expect people to carry a weapon with a specific Skill in their pocket just to deal with one otherwise uncounterable armament.
Personally, since I’m a Faith build, I always keep a Cipher Pata in my pocket, since it also pierces shields.
...There are some things which get more attention because of how commonly used they are. Bleed based builds, and in particular, the corpse Piler ability from Rivers of Blood are very powerful in the right scenarios. There are ways to deal with them. Talking as someone who is currently rocking a hybrid arcane build as well, I think it could do with a PvP tune up
It is really problematic when it's being used by a gank, because the only counter often isn't available, but in a duel I really don't find them that strong. Either you're close enough to land a jumping attack, which should break 99% of people's poise, or you're far enough away that you can sprint out of range.
Placidusax's Ruin is the way more frustrating one to play against IMO because it hits you on like frame 12.
Placidusax is weird. It is actually neither a Communion or Dragon Cult incantation; in fact, it doesn't seem to belong to any specific group of incantations, and thus doesn't recieve the buff from any seal.
I use it because it fills some roles the other stuff can't (finisher and extreme long-range option) + looks awesome.
