Faith or Arcane for a lightning/crucible build?

I know the Dragon Communion Seal is absolutely broken scaling wise, but investing in both really limits my stats. Is a pure faith setup better if I don't plan on using arcane spells?

Also, what's the best seal for pure faith based incantations?

the seal you get when you find the black flame incantation is all faith and really good.

For the best seal i think its Godslayer or Erdtree, but for specific to Lightning it would be the Dragon Cult one.

Theres no seal for Crucible but i heard their armor boost these incantations, but not 100% sure on that.

Dragon communion seal for dragon incantations only. Its scale with Arcane
Gravel stone seal for dragon cult incantations and its scale with Faith
The crucible incantations belong to Erdtree incantations but the Erdtree seal doesn't boost anything which is weird

erdtree is good for pure faith as its the only seal that boosts heals completly. healing/ most faith spells scale of you seals faith scaling stat so things like dragon communion/godslayer are worse at healing even if you can get their incant scaling to the same lvl as the erdtree seal. also helps that erdtree seal is pretty easy to level with very high scaling. godslayer does win in the sub faith 60 category tho but 65+ faith you wanna run erdtree seal. you can always have the godlayer/gravel seal in the other hand for the dmg boost. also yes the cruble tree/axe helemts boost the crucuble incantations so get that from the heros grave near the capital/deeproot depths

The nerf is almost unoticeable. I barelly felt weak and the incantations still inflict tons of damage.

First thing to consider is how lightning is scaling.


Your lightning incantations are going to scale from your Faith.

Your lightning ashe of wars are going to scale from dex.

when you say crucible, i assume you want to use Tail and Horn. They both scale from Faith.


Unless you really want to use ashe of war with lightning scaling. It is better to put 80 faith and then start pumping up str/dex depending on the weapon you are using.

Of course don't forget to put the basic requirement in dex and str for any weapon to you may want to use, but you will be scaling your weapon with flame art or sacred most of the times ( unless you decide to go for lightning scaling on your weapons )


If for some thematic reason you want to use lightning scaling on your weapon, then putting more points in dex before faith might be good, but then your spells won't be as good as if you had 80 faith.



For the seal, you want to use a seal that give you a bonus to the type ( golden order, Bestial, etc... )

So if you focus mostly on lightning spell, you want the Gravel stone Seal, it will gives you the best dmg output. But if you want to scale all the incantations, then Erdtree it is.

all good advice apart from the seals one you wanna use the highest scaling one in your left hand (for crucible spells youll wanna use erdtree seal as those scale of faith more than arcane) and for your right hand youll wanna have 1 slot for your preferred weapon and the other 2 slots for the seals that boost incants gravel and godslayer seal are always a good option as the buff to incant type dmg just needs you to be holding it in either of the hands. So for a max dmg lightning spear cast for example cast it with an erdtree seal in your left hand whilst holding a gravel seal in the right hand is optimal

from my personnal testing, seal scaling with specific damage all outdmg erdtree seal.

if you can dual wield them, even better for dmg.

so if you use Giants fire spell, you want Giant's seal

If you want to use Goskin apostle spell, like black flame. you need to use godslayer.

All that info come from personnal testing at 80 faith, 12 dex, 12 str. 9 int, 9 arc
