Also I'm pretty sure scholars shield can go to 100 boost on other shields as well? Or at least very close. So it's not just fingerprint if you have beef with that spell.
the pvp counters are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because they carry way more risk than the greatshield poke user
i mean this in PvE and PvP, if your build doesn't work because blocking takes stamina away from you...fix your damn build
maybe i should add a list of all the things that work and how a greatshield user can counter it
-Kick weapon art: pushing left stick in a direction that isn't forward
-scythe/shield chip weapon: do more damage to them than they do to you. considering there's about 0 weapons in the game that 100% pass through greatshields, it shouldn't be hard. maybe there's things to say about real PvE builds that lean into the archetype and sacrifice damage, but against another player you will have help via another friendly at minimum vs an invader.
-unblockable/shield piercing weapon arts: rolling or moving. not a soul will get hit by godfrey axe WA after getting clocked by it the very first time. if you don't kill with that element of surprise it's already over.
-spells: approaching or dodging. sure depends on the shield here, but i can't think of a ranged spell a person who can roll is unable to dodge at a distance aside from stars of ruin
-grabs: rolling or moving away when you see it
-parry attempts: changing your attack timings. or using jump attacks
the huge difference between methods for dealing with gshield and using gshield yourself is the amount of effort and the adaptability of your build. a shield user doesn't need any spell investment or dexterity investment to try all these different options for getting around a shield. you can counter them by simply adjusting your play and then falling right back on shieldpoke. as long as you can move properly there isn't a single matchup that hard deletes you. I don't need shields useless I just need the counters to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work. kick WA should instantly break any shield period. because that is the single use it has. can't even break poise or combo into anything or even do damage, the sole purpose is to break guards and it can't even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do that
