Can't Summon Spirits

There have been many occasions where I should be able to summon a spirit, however the option was greyed out for me. This happens even though the Grave symbol is visible at the left corner of the screen, and I have more than enough FP. On my first playthrough I didn't pay attention as I thought I was missing something, but on my Astrologer now it seems obvious that this may be a bug.

Just now I defeated Rennala. On Youtube people are able to summon spirits to help them, however for me, although the Grave icon was there, I was not able to summon anything. In the end I managed to defeat her, but this really threw me off as I was certain I could make summons.

try another save, or verify files, either your save file is bugged or something else

You may be missing the bell required to summon. If Ranni isn't at the church of Elleh at night, It should be available for purchase at the Twin Maiden's Husks in the Roundtable. I made the same mistake on my blind playthrough.

you sure you have enough FP ?
can you make a video where you have enough fp and grave icon but still cant summon ?

Keep in mind a spirit can only be summoned once until you rest at a grace again

i noticed that you said nothing about a finger remedy. if you have a finger remedy active then you wont be able to summon spirits, it puts you in a weird online lobby where you can still use everything except spirits

What is that? I only play solo. Never summoned others ever.

I went from spawn/Grace straight to Rennala without summoning in between.

I encountered it on my Vagabond which was my first playthrough which I didn't really care as I preferred to play without summons. I thought that as a new player I probably missed something, however now that I know it seems obvious that something is wrong.

I encountered it twice with my Astrologer now. Had to clear Rennala without any summons.

I will try to capture it next time. Though I doubt it will shed any more light to the issue. The Grave symbol is there, I summoned for the first time after visiting a Grace site, and I have more than enough FP. I also never play with the fingers for summons etc. I play entirely solo.

Or quit game and load in again, that also resets the spirit summon capability, can't use that for bosses, because you will respawn outside of the boss area, also any creature who isn't dead will get their health to full again, anyway for some other stuff where you can summon spirit summons, you can summon them again if they die and without using a grace.

But yeah, to be able to summon spirits, you need the bell in your inventory aka meet Ranni for the first time, enough fp and a spirit summon of course, and most importantly a place where you can summon one.
