PVP in this game is... atrocious

I find that it's consistent with how the PvP in DS3 was. More often than not invasions are R1 spamming gank fests in DS3. Elden Ring is pretty much the same, except R1 spam has been replaced with Ashes of War and Jumping R2's.

Personally, I'd rather deal with the Rivers of Blood meta than ever go back to the Murky Scythe meta of DS3.

Edit: I should clarify that I don't mind the R1 spamming Gank fests, nor the Ashes of War and Jumping attack spam. It gives me nostalgic memories of the insane PvP in the Forest in DS1.

Sometimes I think people think PvP is worse than it is simply because they never bought medicine.

Not even joking, staunching boluses have saved my ass more than i can count with how unnaturally evil status is in this game. I still feel the need to test Poison Moth Flight in PvP due to how no one ever anticipating poison.

So many people sleep on the crafting system in this game. Some of the consumables you can craft are super strong and quite useful. The boluses and the Aromatics are something I use all the time now.

I think the design is... honestly fantastic. The only problem is the lack of balance. Both at low and meta level. Between how overly strong bleed is, combined with numerous weapon arts that stun-lock or otherwise destroy players (see River of Blood, Carian Retribution, etc), and then considering at low level how all it takes are the frostbite, scarlet rot, and madness builds to make invasions absolutely one-sided. Hell, even sleep is broken at low level. Two Trina's Swords can sleep a person in one hit, leaving them incapacitated and unable to avoid taking a rather massive hit after. The game needs some -massive- balancing changes to make PvP actually fair, but... I think, design wise, the game's the best it's been. The sheer creativity you can have with a build is astounding. They just made way too many things way too strong.

And I don't care how 'salty' it makes me sound, but... If you invade at low level (like, up to lvl 40) with a scarlet rot weapon, like the Antspur Rapier or the Scorpion Stinger... you're kinda a trash person. 99% of players that level won't have any way to combat it, between how you can't roll to avoid it, and how there's basically no way to find cures to it early on.

Can't parry Scarlet Rot Pots, Jumping L1s, Madness Spells, or plenty of the stronger weapon arts in this game.
