Almost everyone can be poisoned so it is an option you can use. I find it a funny build, because you can play with different strategies: agressive at the beginning, defensive after the status has been proc, agressive after finished to proc again...
I suggest poison + rot. So you can deal a little bit more damage. there are some weapons that you can proc both status at the same time. i used the antspur rapier infused in poison.
Although, against normal mobs...the status damage is too low and not fast enough, you will always kill them with normal attacks, not because of the poison.
But for bosses and minibosses its quite funny. I suggest also have another weapon in the secondary slot because once the enemy has the status, you wont proc more until finished, so better something that deals more damage (bleed or frost if you want to make a full status build)
Also...the final boss is not weak against anything but phisical attacks, so save at least 1 tear to respec, or prepare to GIT GUD for real lol.
Antspur Rapier seems a really interesting weapon.
It's convenient for a build like this but be aware - the Rot buildup rate caps at 55 (50 with a Poison infusion) and isn't increased by your Arcane stat so depending on resistances, against most bosses, you're going to have to land a good number of melee-range hits in a small amount of time to apply the Rot effect.
Not all poisons are the same, the poison infusion is regular poison where as some weapons like the venomous fang are "deadly poison" which has 1/3 the duration but does 2x the damage per tick.
Rot is simply all around better than poison, even with the LOWEST possible mind and faith you can still use rot breath in any build via a cerulean hidden tear and a faith knot tear - use it once or twice on a boss at the start of a fight and you're good.
Dual antspur rapiers are an interesting option - lots of passive rot build up and can be infused with bleed for even more damage procs, but I ended up with a frost infused great stars and a blood infused venomous fang with the afore mentioned flask for rot breaths
Also be aware that the exultation talismans are REALLY nice for this; +20% AP for 20 seconds each time you proc poison/rot for one and another 20% for 20 seconds each time you proc a bleed
