Faith/Dex or Faith/Str best?
With the recent patch improving a lot of strength based weapons, not sure which is easier for a new player like me. Right now more focused on upping my vigor now that i finished off Godrick (30 to 40 vigor being the goal from the current of 21) but once that is done not sure which of the two damage physical stats should be my goal (Str17 and Dex 20)

Um.. up to you tbh, i did Dex and it was alright.

Dex or Str give different benefits, such has weapons or different scaling on Talismans, for example, Str is better for Bestial Incantations.

Dex also speeds up cast time, so you dont need Radagon's Icon if you have a good amount of Dex

The speed up for casting was my original draw, so maybe stick with the orginal plan unless I find a big weapon I like? Could always respec at that point (downside to being a new player, all the builds look cool and have not found my own Souls play style yet)

Faith and Strength will allow you to enjoy the glorious but ultimately broken Blasphemous GS, it makes PvE trivial in NG+++ if you spec accordingly.

Like i said, up to you, Str/Faith do have some cool weapons like the Crucible weapons, or Malikeths blade.

While Dex/Faith has Black Knife, Halo Scythe or Sacred Relic Sword.

Dex + Arc on a weapon w/ natural bleed + Seppuku AoW & Occult ascension

A lot of the str scaling weapons require better timing than dex ones due to slower swing speeds. I'm sure the dps is relatively similar but str weapons generally take a bigger chunk of health per hit. The trade off between getting more hits in between mob/ boss attacks with a dex weapon or fewer but more powerful hits with str comes down to your play style and what you're comfortable with really.
These games are all about trial and error. Do what you think is best and if it doesn't work out you can always respec later as you progress in the game.

Also, Str weapons usually do more stagger

I recently realized that stance-breaking and critical hit afterwards is a pretty strong mechanic. There are various enemies/bosses who are weak/strong to frost/bleed, but a weapon/weapon-art that can deal significant stance damage is probably a more general approach.

My impression is that Dex is related to faster weapons, which can therefore apply status effects at a higher rate.

For Faith my suggestion is to have just enough for utility (e.g. curing status ailments). Many of the bosses are from/related to the Golden Order, and they have significant resistance to Holy damage. Which is a great shame because I just came across a holy hammer at endgame and I really like it.

Yeah, some of the late game bosses have high resist to Holy, it was rough, but good think you can have Lighting and Fire elements as well.

I went FTH/STR for weapons like the Golden Halberd, that can get you through a lot (I guess even the entire game) with realitve comfort. When lategame comes around and you run into more and more enemies resistant to holy damage, you can still switch to something else and you can always use a respec, if you went too hard on STR for the weapon requirements. For example the Blasphemous Blade or Gargoyle's Greatsword. The latter of which can be buffed and infused, making you pretty flexible.

Using beast incantations with it makes the most sense, because of the seal boosting them scaling off both FTH/STR.

Also plan on using lighting spells, so hoping to get the seal that boosts those, but that pretty far down the line. Though looks like I got lots of options no matter which path I take.
