The respeccing is there so that you can test and experiement BEFORE committing, or to fix a flat out mistake youve made with your character.
I hear what youre saying, I am not going to argue against more somber stones in a playthrough, but I dont know if it should just be free for all style. Still want to have that balance there, so that there is "permanence" to your character, so you have to commit. Part of the long term fun of these games, and many ARPGs I would argue, is falling in and out with playstyles and characters. IMO.
its good for the game when people make characters.
I want free repecs at grace. No matter what your build, being able to change it to try that sweet reward from the dungeon, sounds amazing.
less multiplayer activity at lower levels would be one for example
In fact it isnt.
Back in the older Souls Games you were actually limited due to issues with storing the data.
We have the technology now, doesnt mean we have to necessarily use it.
I agree that respeccing especially in an open world game should be unlimited and thus the final stones you need to buff weapons should be too.
Theres literally no reason not to.
The real issue here is that people continue to fail to understand that these are design decisions. You think FROM is unaware that they COULD give you more? They CHOOSE not to give you more. they do that again and again. Why? Because building your character loses all its weight when you take away ALL the consequences. It SHOULD feel like a decision to use an ancient stone, or to assign a stat point. Many many rpgs have taken similar stances in the past, there is something to be said of character permanence, and its very much in-line with a lot of fromsoft's design philosophy imo. Im not saying theeres something wrong with wanting infinite respec or more stones, im saying not everyone wants it, and FROM didnt put that in because they didnt want it in.
I agree that it would be nice if something dropped or sold Ancient Dragon smithing stones, but being able to max out 8 somber weapons per playthrough really does feel like enough.
You know Bloodborne is a game of the year title with NO respec and 1 or 2 "slab" equivelants per ng cycle?
