Astels hit box
Astel has a huge AoE range for many attacks, this I am fine with. But, there is a grab animation (where it teleports behind you and lunges at you) that will get a hold of you even if you were nowhere near its hands or mouth. You will teleport into its grasp, I have cooped with several people who have seen this happen with themselves and others. This attack animation is the only problem I have found with the boss, or any other boss concerning their attacks hit boxes. Is it a bug like the bleed dogs? That is not typical of Souls games from my experience, the grabs range is massive even outside of where the arms wave. Souls games are known for the accuracy of their hit boxes, not this.

They both do it

Ya wondering same thing on that. Found moment teleports I just panic roll in case till see it do next animation after teleporting (funny thought this game supposed punish that kind of play style xD)

It seems to grab a decent ways off from where actually are but so hard keep camera on one thing for longer than a nanosecond in that fight I honestly couldn’t tell you if was off or not xD

Yeah that grab is crazy, Souls games have had their fair share of wacky grabs in the past though, chained ogre in Sekiro and Friede's dash grab from DaS3 come to mind.

Thing about Astel is you'll fight him again and he casts shadow clones before grabbing you, a 360 grabception, like holy ♥♥♥♥ bud so to a degree the one you fight at the cloister feels fair and balanced.

There's an attack where Astel slowly pushes its left arm forward to throw dust or something as a ranged attack, the hitbox on that one is so obviously screwed for melee. Can hit you from so far to the sides of the arm, and imo it shouldn't even be hitting you in the first place.

I'm not just imaging this, am I? Haven't seen anyone else talk about it.

Not trying hijack thread but this legit triggered me as a fellow melee builder

Nah my friend, you are not the only one seeing that ish’, legit my least fav part of entire fight. Just stopped jump attacking altogether cos seemed like everytime, WHAP! Best part is, maybe been hit once between multi tries both of em by actual explosions xD Also why just stopped trying get hits on their sides altogether too.

Good to hear that I wasn't hallucinating. Was the most blatantly awful hitbox in the whole series.

Yeah Astel was rough for melee. The triple aoe can be bad but got used to it, wish it were a bit smaller though. Real problem was when you go in for a hit and then he uses the gravity aoe grab, no way to get away in time. Just have to roll and get lucky enough to have rolled through it, because for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason you can roll through it.

What's really sad is that I still think Astel was a top 3 boss in the game
