I had the option in my game, after he died, but admittedly had already bought everything.
I also got his special potion, but didn't actually use it (using the Amber Starlight).
The end of his "quest" involves him dying as far as I know regardless. Though if you are locked out of getting the puppets, I'm sorry to hear that.
^ ^ This and you can't progress his quest any further for the Magic Scorpion Charm.
Ah, thanks for clarifying. To be 100% honest I had forgotten about that charm, but I do have it apparently so I must have "finished" his quest? I never used his amber draught on anyone though. Guess you get it when you give him the amber starlight.
It's only about a 10% increase in damage in any case, making you take about as much extra damage. I get use out of these kinds of things myself - mainly the fire one on my current build that mainly uses fire damage - but it won't hurt your build that much to miss it by any means. If you wanted it for PvP, that would suck, but otherwise you can just grab it in NG+. Or maybe find someone willing to trade it?
Seluvis gives me the creeps though, makes me ask if the power is worth it.
Turns out I'm locked in the moral decision of giving a possible evil concoction to a fictional being. Even if I'm currently aiming for the Chaos ending, which destroys a fictional world lol
All basically have the same outcome, which is continuing with his quest, only difference is what Spirits you get.
To be fair, Seluvis is a bit more than evil in what he does with his magic also.
If anything - I say give the potion to Dungeater if your being a "nice guy", based on what the potion does.
As for the Amber potion, I got it like a trophy but wasn't after more than the scorpion.
And I don't think Gideon would be able to push fourth his quest properly; I don't want to spoil anything though for those who haven't gone down the quest-line yet though, but I am quite confident Seluvis can DEFINATELY tell lol
Also - to anyone who cares - get the sleeping arrow puppet; leveled she is really good against dragons and certain other bosses. In 2 or 3 at +9, she can sleep the boss dragons. Edit: though I was disheartened that (even though the description says Gideon knew the person before and was why he and Seluvis split up), Gideon has no dialogue for you having it :/
also when you find his set on his corpse you normally get the charm aswell then. atleast thats how i got on my first playtrough. unless that got changed.
you can stall rannis quest infinitely till the end of the game by simply never looting the fingerslayer blade. so unless you really want certain items you can wait.
