My brother did this a lot on games like skyrim my advice FIGHT IT!!! you can respec later in the game if oyu mess something up.
From a gameplay point of view: ER gets a lot easier the higher your level is. Recently I started with a new character and I have to say, I think the first area is in my opinion a lot thougher. Many enemies stagger like a madman, some you ecounter leave you almost no room for an attack or heal and this while you're limited with your character due to a lack of weapon and stats.
Just continue, every level makes it easier. Eventually to a point where the game gets boring and grindy.
I'm also fighting my urge to restart when I screw up a quest - learning to let it go and wait until NG+ to try it again.
