I thought this was a common practice... and common knowledge.
Some summon pools are often terribly placed so I prefer to do this, and also force of habit, been doing it since DS1.
Less summons mean almost none in my experience. This worked well in older games, but in this game I'm having a really difficult time getting summoned by the boss gate. Summoning pools work well though.
If you rushed a high refined weapon it will lock you to only be summoned for people who did the same, which drastically reduces your summon pool.
I could be wrong, but thats just how I feel, as I get summoned more on my Lv 75 character with appropriate gear level compared to my level 30 with a +10 somber stone weapon.
If we'd want that we'd go to Rykard place or invade,
besides it's awesome seeing a host, after repeated summons finally dodge that black blade swing.
Another was a guy in cloth armour, summoning for the minor erdtree fatty in northern caelid who had exactly, 673 hp. At around level 90. Every attack would one or two shot him.
Or the bear with 20k hp you're supposed to sneak past in the cave with the poise talisman. Great, you want me to fight that then kill the wolves and the boss with 4 heals as a summon. Wonderful.
Between constant disconnects and moronic hosts multiplayer can get a little frustrating.
This happened to me. I got summoned to the rune bear cave in Caelid. Host ran in, got one shot by their charging attack. I don't blame them, the bear and duo boss fight below are difficult if you've just come from Limgrave. It's also not obvious at first that it's not a normal lesser rune bear since it has no health bar.
It's a shame that you can't see who you've played with on Steam anymore as I'd love to message these people and give them more detailed advice like I did in dark souls 3. I've made a lot of friends over the soulsbourne series by messaging and being messaged. Oh well.
