Not a farm but a good starter pack is the big dragon in dragonbarrow. Take a bleedweapon and hammer down at the blindspot where you are safe. Nice 70 k for the start to rofl stomp over the first 3 areas.

Dont forget the pickled foot to increase rune gain. If you do it , pop a foot.

I find the Vulgar Militia outside the Beast Sanctuary in Caelid to be a great farm when I need to top off a level. Worth 1k runes a KO, there are 13+ of them in close proximity of the Site of Grace, and the enemies are easy to topple with a heavy attack on horseback. They hit like a truck, so staying on torrent and maneuvering around while waiting for the Heavy Attack windup is beneficial.

Best thing is you can sneak past all the uglies to get there by traveling north of the tower by the mini erdtree during the day.

There are two places I would consider the best options:
1: The small/big battle that involves soldiers fighting the doggy T rex.
2: The one time 'lazy' dragon. He is not meant to take proc it was a oversight so it's a free gold mine. Just do not kill all the dragon npcs around him as that is what is suppose to make the dragon vanish? Can't confirm.

The ball farm is good, since youre at caelid anyways if you opt to kill Greyoll. Its very early on since theres nothing blocking you from going to there.

for anyone doing this, i'd suggest the weird turtleback guys closer to the erd tree by dragonbarrow. they're a lot easier to fight and give nearly as much runes. ton of them as well if you run up and down the paths beside the tree.

the question is WHY? You get more runes than you need to just from playing the game. There is absolutely no reason to farm anything

Early experience in free roam I imagine like myself makes ppl think 'locked out of area' till a good grind to balance. It's not till late game, and having explored tons in general that a person even realizes that the game naturally will give you like 200 levels without grinding.

I did not learn this till later either, and the reality is the game is in fact so massive you will get 150-200 levels a run without grinding if you want. That's one of my entire points of the ignorance of breaking the community up, and hiding in level 70 or under. It's just completely unnatural to the game progress.

It is usually to top of a level up before going into a dangerous area, or to level up a weapon you just got so when you try it you have a decent idea as to it's damage related to the monsters you fight/weapon scales you are used to.

A plus for me is that I am usually bad at horseback fighting, so it was great practice on my aim.

There is also a portal to the area near the church of marika north of mistwood in the eastern part of limgrave IIRC. you follow a short streamlet
