So, here is what happened.

Miquella was REBORN by Rennala and placed as an infant into the Halig Tree's womb to grow as alternative to the Erd tree. Meanwhile his sister Melania was fighting in Caelid against Radan, good old Blood Lord Mohg snuck into the Halig Tree, cut open the womb and snatched up Miquella while he was still developing. Mohq took Miquella back to his Blood Clot domain, put him inside a cocoon so he would be protected and continue to try and nurture him until he developed fully. This process was interrupted by the player, and Mohg came out to battle. Miquella may or may not be dead inside the cocoon.

Melania returns to Halig Tree to see the trees womb cut open and no Miquella but she has no idea where he is or went or what happened. So defeated, she sits in a chair beside where he was taken from and falls asleep until the player enters.

Melania awakens by the presence of the player, at first Melania though Miquella returned, then she sees with dissapointment it is the player, a tarnished and she knows what they are after. She tells them she is undefeated in battle, that they will witness true horror and they shall now, ROT!

yet miquella's arm in mohg's arena is like super long for no reason. either I'm missing something or miquella was already massive as a child (which I can't see considering malenia's relatively normal height)

Pretty much as the rot was literally causing her to lose body parts and needed replacements.

Miquella was trying to cure his sister of the curse of rot, first through the Golden Order until it proved fruitless
Then he went to do the Halitree method to break his own curse to become a being powerful enough to break Malenia's curse.

This is why I hate Mohg, because Miquella was likely close to achieving his goal until evil goat man stole him away.

TLDR; Miquella is a chad among brothers who wanted to heal his sister only for his goals to be screwed over by horny goat man's delusions.
