If there was a site of grace literally next to boss fog, I would have not bothered with Malenia since it was exercise in frustration and futility until I realized I have to change weapon and grind 40-odd levels to dump into Arcane so my bleed (that I never intended to use on my quality Str/Dex/Fai build) can annihilate her before she can screw me with her special moves.
Thats also how all the bosses are, they are easy for some builds are hard for others.
She doesnt force people to use the "right" build. This is a fight where you just have to git gud unironically. Ive seen people do it with faith builds, powerstancing, int builds, which are the ones that they have used for the majority of their playthrough.
She doesnt at all. I aint even good at the game and I beat her using melee only despite my build having like no points in str. Its just timing. Last thing we need is for her to be given the Radahn treatment.
Absolutely not. I have killed everything before Malenia and after her, including final boss, with my Treespear as a quality melee build using incantation to buff myself and my weapon. Treespear is completely non-viable for Malenia or just makes the fight pointlessly more difficult compared to katana with a bleed.
I could push through all bosses with enough focus and learning the encounter with my existing build and weapons even if they were not optimal but Malenia just did not work. I could not hit her twice in a row with Treespear as she flinched on first hit but was able to dodge away my second hit or start one of her uninterruptible attacks, which punished me and healed her on top. I can easily hit her 3 times with Nakagiba (running poke + 2 slashes) before she can get out or I need to dodge away from her attacks. This means that every 2, max 3, times I attack here I also proc bleed effect that deals massive damage. If I stick to spear I would be whittling her HP down for long minutes only to slip once on her Waterflow Dance to see her HP go back to full.
I'm not saying players do not need to adjust their strategies or learn bosses but it is very different situation when a single boss is so much easier with a specific weapon type and build.
I don’t think she’ll be nerfed because she’s optional.
Also you clearly did not understand what I said with my post since you described the same thing, some bosses are easier for some builds more than others and it has always been like that.
And with everything in this game, tanking your build up and leveling makes everything so much easier, so you can survive some hits, and having maximum flasks is going to get you through a fight.
What level are you, and have you tried using summons / spirit ashes?
Also at least for me, the only moment where the boss wasn't atrociously bad is when I learned the secret way of stunlocking her and skipping second phase consistently. Better blanket nerf Radahn's damage instead of doing something to waterfowl I guess, good one From, as usual.
But when i got to it a few days ago it only took 10-15 attempts. Waterfowl dance was not as bad as i expected. I could survive it even with sloppy dodging causing me to eat a few hits. Ended up stunlocking her in the second phase of the attempt i killed her and didn't have to deal with most of the second phase.
I guess if you have low vig or if your weapon is not upgraded enough it might be really hard idk.
