Game allocates too much RAM

Hi. So, when I run this game, it allocates all of my remaining memory(~13gb), and if page filing was enabled, would probably also use that. I don't know why this happens, as the actual utilization is 2-4gb at any given time +3gb of my 8gb of VRAM.

This is an optimization failure. If I had to guess, the people who tested and provided the recommended specs did NOT factor in the slow page file in Windows, and thus it seems that the game requires >16gb.

I have to bold the following to make it 13 year old reading level friendly, to explain why this is an issue:

What this results in is being unable to run very light hardware-accelerated applications in the background(i.e. YT video in the background).

My computer has 16gb of RAM. It has 8gb of VRAM. You might want to learn how to read before posting anything on the internet.

I told OP the solution to his problem but he isn't listening. 32GB of RAM will fix all his problems. Windows 10 + YouTube + newest game (Elden Ring) + Discord = you need a lot of RAM. I'm going to assume he is at least doing 2 of those things at the same time like he claimed in his original post. If he's using Google Chrome it takes up a lot of RAM.

For your information you are actually wrong. Allocation is absolutely fine. This happens for games as a precaution in case the data is needed even if it isn't actually being utilized, however, if another task such as YouTube requires the memory it will give it to those processes for actual real utilization thus this isn't even an issue.

Using Windows 10 you should have 32GB of RAM or more if you plan on playing video games and browsing YouTube or talking to friends on Discord.

Yeah, 32BG ram, lol. Unless you are editing videos, or creating music, or some other high ram intense work load, you don't "need" 32GB ram. Not for games, not for running youtube videos in the background, lol. If anything, get faster ram, not more. No game benefits from spare ram. It can't do anything with empty space, if it has nothing to save in.

Yup, it's true. Only 1 stick of 8 GB of ram on my PC, after all there's still the page file. The only problem I had is for extreme decompression of a very large file size(>30GB), I have to force the program to limit ram usage or it takes forever instead of a long time.

Hardware specs, only 3 main things are important. GPU, CPU and recently the amount of VRAM on the GPU. The others have some leeway.

E.g my sysinfo shows this

Available Physical Memory 4.00 GB
Total Virtual Memory 23.4 GB
Available Virtual Memory 16.0 GB

So do you lmfao, as you said, allocation isnt the same as usage!

If your PC needs RAM for other applications it'll reduce the allocation to ER for it.

Heavy tasks such as gaming just get allocated as much as possible by default.

Also just get 32GB and not care at all.. RAM is a cheap and easy upgrade.

Sounds like a weird issue.

They got provided PCs by Bamco, played according to a setting (like say Max/4k/60fps limit etc) and that's the recc spec. Whether its actually needed or not. Then a lower powered PC gets the Minimum treatment. Thank you for the occasional caps tho, makes it easier for learning disabilities to read

the people who work on balance aren't the people doing ordinary bug fixes
