30fps option?
I'm a console pleb who A, enjoys 30fps for some stupid reason and B, wants to crank up the grapgics without worrying about excessive stuttering.

I get most of you probably have an above decent rig and will not care at all about this, but as a person with a 3GB GTX 1060, i would like to take as much advantage of my hardware as possible, and while it may not be much, it still has life in it.

Just wanted to say, i hope against hope that this option exists.

Honestly, the more people that get to enjoy this, the better. Hopefully you can cap the FPS in some way. I seem to remember other games offering such things in the past.

They still do.

The Surge 2 and Code Vein for instance have options like this. They're pretty sweet.

That's super interesting, glad to see some devs still offer such options.

Yep. The Resident Evil/Evil Within games offer this as well. These really are important too, because atmosphere is everything to horror games, and nothing breaks the atmosphere worse than textures and effects that are so low quality that they feel obviously out of place. Obviously i can run these fine on medium/high with 60fps, but 30fps Ultra is better for the atmosphere to me. It also, as i said, evades stuttering issues.

You have that option in every single game. Go to Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D settings > Program Settings > game.exe > Max Frame Rate 30.

If it's a very old game that uses <DirectX 9, use directx wrappers/try RTSS.

What kind of question is that really? :steamhappy:

Sad to say, these settings don't often work for me, or they flat out don't look right at all. (They tend to make uneven framepacing worse.)

In game framerate limits work far better for games like this.

Trying setting it to a bit more than solid 30 like 31-32 for example, that help with the pacing a bit

Can you give an example of such game? I'll look into it and see what might be the problem.

Usually you want to turn in-game v-sync and framerate caps off and set according settings in Nvidia control panel instead to get rock solid frametimes. If that is not the case for you, then there is a problem.

Try Riva turner, you'll have to download msi afterburner and add the cap on Riva, you can set a global cap or per game

Mostly it's shooters like Prey, DOOM, and Resident Evil 7 where it's most noticeable, but the frame pacing happens in every game, and the dedicated FPS lock gives me an error so i never use it in Nvidia Inspector.

It's just hassle free using the in game options. I don't have to do so much fiddling and troubleshooting when it doesn't work, unless i'm playing The Surge 2, but the code on that one seems shot thanks to poor Vulkan optimization and support. Blegh.

Are you sure you are having frame pacing issues in DOOM that are 100% related to frame limiters, and not because you dip below 30 fps? 3gb of vram is not enough for the game. Previously I have spent a lot of time troubleshooting the game, and found out that it has a vram related bug that heavily affects performance. 4gb vram+ is a must for this game.

Doom 2016. I play that rock solid 60fps on Ultra at most of not all times. I just prefer 30fps because it's easier to record and stuff.

Doom 3 (original, not BFG) though i get pretty bad frame pacing in general with or without the limits. It's more stable on my crappy Switch than on my PC. xD

Lol, what? You'll have a lower framerate anyway, if you can't handle 60 fps. Just activate frame limiter in your gpu driver menu.

If it even bothered to work correctly half the time.
