Yes it can be worth it.

Swap poison for scarlet rot, not only is scarlet rot more easily accessible, its also flatout stronger than poison.

Good luck learning which enemies are weak to poison.

Everytime you'll think "i should try poison", it won't work because this foe/boss is immune.

if u struggling on a specifik boss can be worth to help, but in general no its too low dmg overall, id prefere putrefaction (rot?)

I would say no, maybe for cheesing something, but rot is better

Fair, I personally like how they look. What about the rotten crystalspear though? Its not too horrid on the eyes I dont think.

can be worth for bosses but as their hp increases as the game goes the damage becomes really minimal

If you're fighting something that you're not comfortable with and there are likely to be long pauses between you landing regular hits, then sure. It doesn't require much investment and throwing a few Serpent Arrows at a boss when there's a gap and landing a DoT is better that doing nothing at all.

And sure, Rot is better if you can land it but most of the weapons that apply it also have fairly low buildup rates that never improve so unless you're using something like the Rot Breath incant, you're probably going to have to land quite a few hits to apply it - and if you're comfortable doing that, you'd generally be better off just using bleed or high scaling weapons to finish the fight quickly instead.

Overall, DoT's aren't likely to be your primary source of damage but there's no harm in having the tools available for occasional fights that you'd prefer to cheese slowly rather than getting in close for the faster win.

I think you're supposed to mix it in with Scarlet Rot for greatest effect. The advantage of these two status effects over Blood and Frost is that you don't need to continuously reapply them, but you do have to enjoy being patient.

I wouldn't build for poison, I'd only use as "icing" damage you can sneak in. Toxic perfume does the job pretty quick and seems to tick faster than usual application, otherwise I just use poison darts, cluster poison stones, poison pots or poison mist incant.

Speaking of perfume don't sleep on the acid spray perfume, it's like 1 min of targets dealing -15% damage and it's been pretty nice.

Poison is essentially comedy "because you can" in player hands.

Even things people would try to decry as "exploits" like sneaking up to a fat pumpkin head or omen or troll and using poison mist to poison them without alerting them (on the first use, they gain psychic powers on a do over usually) to sit back and watch.... just reminds you how pathetic "sometimes it is only nine damage per second" is on HP bloat filler enemies.

player inflicted poison isn't even enough to scare other players, let alone filler PvE enemies. Best you can hope for is "Well, not using anything esle. it would be funny" and hope poison tickles the last 12 HP off something when you do a big final hit and the boss still is standing with an invisible sliver of health, if your poison didn't already wear off, if they were not immune to poison in the first place.

Even "Mix it with rot for great effect!" is basically desperation. If your build has rot access, and your rot isn't doing the job, poison will not be your tipping point. So again, "Well... because it was funny/I'm not using anything else so why not?"

As much because the poison buff incantation actually lasts a decent amount of time so hey, you might actually poison something! But at that point you might as well go from 12 to 15 Faith to use the lightning incantation where +80 or whatever lightning damage even with trash faith per swing for a minute and 30 seconds will probably matter more.
