Think of the Crystalian bosses. They eat up slashes from swords all day, but if you hit them with Strike damage from a Mace, they crumble into dust with ease.
Some times all you need to do to make an encounter easier is change the damage type.
so the halberd also does holy damage and physical damage meaning it has "split damage"
this means it will do less damage to enemies than purely physical based weapons because enemies have defense against both physical and holy
Imagine fighting crystal dudes with a sword. Striking weapons are really good against some enemies, gargoyles too.
Physical + Holy vs only Physical?
If the weapons you are comparing do not have matching damage types then the comparison will never be even.
Basic example
You have one weapon that does 200 physical damage and one weapon the does 100 phys and 100 holy
The enemy you are attacking has 20 damage negation vs everything
Physical weapon does 200 -20 = 180 damage
Phy / Holy does 100- 20 100 -20 = 160 damage
So in this case split damage types are weaker by fair amount.
It is also possible that enemy you are testing against simply has more damage negation vs Slash??? ( bloodhound blade) than peirce??? ( Halberd)
and no the alabard doesnt have any holy damage it can improve damage and defence with the ash
Also, you're wrong. That weapon does do holy damage. And if you're changing the scaling so that it doesn't, you will deal less damage than the weapon should be doing. Do you not meet the stat requirements to hold it in standard mode or something?
https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Golden+Halberd
theres no mouse symbol next to his name
so he might have a pirated copy or something and thats why stuff is different for him
The Golden Halberd doesnt just scale with STR but also with Faith, of course. If you lack both of those then its going to kinda suck, methinks.
