IDK about distance (maybe a small adjustment but not like a foot), but it should definitely add more i-frames. It may be a bit "faster" animated also (AKA you get like a split second faster to re-roll or attack) - so for example you rolling and a medium wait guy rolling with an attack at the end - you may finish as he is mid swing.
Otherwise, just i-frames and stamina improvements for running/falling (or maybe falling was just Dark Souls? it came into play at one point and may have just been a DS2 thing or something); but like, you hear the whole "can't beat the boss? try it naked" in Souls games and I always figured it was just to say "you know you are gunna die, might as well practice rolling while you do it" since you barely hit the ground vs medium you roll seemingly like a normal person vs heavy where you basically back flop and get up lol.
yeah 500 hours in elden ring and DS3 and i have no idea theres 3 types of rolls. Thats literally what i said man, im telling you that the only difference between the rolls is distance. No you dont run faster, no you dont use less stamina on swings, no you dont get more i-frames. Its simply the fact that you are able to roll further away with a light roll compared to a medium roll compared to a fat roll. Im telling you use the fat roll for a day and then go back to a lighter roll, you will appreciate that extra roll distance.
It's a trade off either way, you just have to decide which one works better for you.
Well then - you may want to update the wiki since it says the higher your encumbrance across the 4 (not 3) levels of rolls: https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Equip+Load
it currently goes to say that you get less I frames each tier you hop up (with testing for under 30% in progress)
And yes it has been like this forever - I would pay $5 to watch someone fat roll through Nameless King boss fight.
You also got to account for the fact that rolling will not suffice for some attacks no matter what your equip load. And getting slapped around so hard that you die with no heals used sucks.
It's also really hard to stay at a light enough load for fast roll.
Probably just going to do that, didn't really pay much attention to it until recently that I got the great jar arsenal and started experimenting with weight, but so far going light seems to be just a big waste of absorption and poise to gain a near imperceptible advantage.
Sadly I don't have anything like the lloyd's talisman or anything else that could benefit out of low equipment load, I just kind of expected it to do something by itself, guess that's not the case.
