Damage too high?
So I've put in around 90 hours over several different builds and I'm wondering how everyone feels about the amount of damage enemies can do to you. Seems like I'm being 2 or 1 shot more than any other fromsoft game even with putting points into hp. Do you guys think enemy damage is getting out of hand? Did the other games have damage this high? I've been working on the fire giant and being 1 shot by him is getting a little exhausting not to mention the blood katana guy I had to kill to get the respawn point closer to the boss.

Enemy damage potential is weird in Elden Ring, at the mid game it feels like I'm playing in one of the Bloodborne Chalice dungeons that halve your health. I haven't even tried new game plus yet, so I can't even imagine what the damage can go up to.

yea, I know. I've beaten all of the games multiple times except for demon's souls. I don't need to be told how shields work.
It’s okay bro. Just a reminder :)
tbh if I wasn't using a shield I'd have probably lost my mind by the time I got to the capital city. Gotta be able to perfect dodge every time.

Stamina damage against shields becomes rather absurd once you reach Mountaintops of the Giants. Shields after that point rapidly turn from a reliable damage negator into "Oh, you pressed L1? Sweet! That means I get a free stun on you, which then means free damage!"

Greatshields will fare better, but are still going to have trouble if you try to block more than one or two hits.

Try applying buffs or different weapons, armor, talismans.
If you're getting 1-2 shot, then you're not dodging properly or applying buffs to take the hits you might suffer for failing to dodge while trying to do damage at range.
Some enemies want you away from them and will even try to put distance between you, some want you close.
I recently fought the fire giant and it was pretty easy as far as most boss fights go, he did try to get distance the whole fight, rolling away, I ran up and slapped him with my sword and he died. The duo crucible knights was probably the hardest fight I've had next to the blood lord.
i havent hit the late areas yet but i also feel i, the player does too much damage on some of the early game bosses who seem to die in just a few hits. i saw the same happen on streams
enemies attacks are too high. Armor too weak. Bosses are too strong and too weak depending on the boss and need balancing. Quest and story paths too obscure and need more hints so I don't have to look at a wiki so much or I'm wandering aimlessly. Please fine tune this game.

I don't really mind high damage and high stakes

What I DO MIND HEAVILY is attack speed and how insanely unrelenting the majority of boss enemies are. There's one thing for a boss that's slow but hits heavy, aka Fire Giant, but when I fought little ms./mr. Scarlet Rot with the anime bullsht rush, you can't roll out of it let alone run from it, and it's too much.

But hey, just means more cheese is on the menu. Hate how half the bosses don't feel like they can be fought normally, or even as intended due to how hard and fast they hit. If you want to beat something better know how to stunlock or burst it instead of get the intended experience
Damage is high but I was able to beat the game without any issues. Bosses are punishing but usually fair, same with normal enemies. So, obligatory Git Gud™.

Vigor 40, you're welcome. ALSO wear real armor.

The four endgame bosses I consider to be the hardest are all entirely beatable. Get good. Barely any of the have fast animation resets, their attacks just come out fast so you need to react quickly. Hits deal a lot of damage. But Malenia, Radagon, Mohg, and Maliketh all have very clear punishment windows after their attacks, especially big ones. Second-phase Maliketh is probably the trickiest but with some patience and good old fashioned Git Gud, is of course beatable.

That's kinda funny because It only took me a few tries with the duo crucible knights. I guess it just depends on the build/person playing. I'll get past fire giant if I keep trying. This post was supposed to be more about how exhausting it is getting 1 shot so much in terms of the whole game. Captain niall also kicked my ass so bad that I took a 2 day break from the game.

You clearly haven't beaten the game at the time of this post. Even with black flame grant me strength, heavy armor, and 50 vigor, I've been one shot by some enemies. Not to mention fodder enemies can easily kill me in two to three hits. I stopped worrying about what armor to use and just started dressing to fashion, focusing on maintaining lightweight for maximum i-frames. The enemies are simply doing way too much damage, it needs to be scaled down. This game is awesome, however, it feels as though they have made it difficult for the sake of it, instead of trying to offer a fun challenging experience like the previous titles. No matter how you slice it, the enemy damage needs to be toned down by a significant amount. It is the insane health and damage they possess that forces so many of us to use broken builds, instead of just finding a weapon we like and making a build around it just cuz. Actually just beat the game again the other day on a wretch playthrough and focused on a int-dex build. I mained Rogier's rapier and Carian regal staff with the Carian knight set armor. My build was IDEAL for the stupid moonveil sword, which I had. I hate the fact I struggled as much as I did in melee because I refused to use that broken weapon. It isn't fun to use well known broken builds...at least not for me.
Well, I have 1800 hp and 50 percent damage negation for almost every damage type. That and the phyisk that won't let you die in one hit combined with the damage negation one, and I will not get one hit, at least once ;) I can take two to one hits even without the potion. I see the logic in going all damage and light load roll, but this build I have right now is fun and I don't die alot; I'm running through ng+ and have not even got close to dying, but I'm sure it'll happen, no biggie. I think damage negation is more important than flat HP or defense, so you can wear the talismans that do that for physical and the one for non-physical -- that will help even on a low armor build somewhat. That's two slots through, and it may be better to boost damage in the end if your squishy.
