If you want to never speak to Lady Tanith at the front door, well... technically speaking, you can jump off the cliff next to where the Abductor Virgin in Raya Lucaria drops you off at and do a panicky hell run to one of a couple graces around the interior of Volcano Manor. The lava in this area literally does chip damage and is of zero consequence, so you can just run around on the molten rock without fear.
The obscure way just gets you into part of the area, not the whole thing. I already did that as well.
it gives you some of the best Armour in the game and amazing weapons too
Thank you, this is the answer I was looking for. Pretty stupid mechanic overall. The fact that they give you an option not to join them implies there's SOME reason not to, but apparently not. All it does is keep you from doing that area. I beat Sekiro and every Dark Souls at release without looking up any footage or tips online and never ran into a hurdle like this.
