Why do the souls series have soft-caps?

They should let people build their character however they want and make all points equal.
So what if someone wants to invest in 99 vigor? He would have no strength/dex/int and deal pitiful damage.

i think that the problem is that if someone gets to level 200+, they can make really OP one shot builds, softcaps are not here to limit us, they're here so they can limit other high level players so they dont make a 99 dex and 99 arcane bleed build + whatever they have

It limits build diversity but makes the experience slightly easier to balance.

I mostly just object to the fact it nearly requires external resources to understand.

If you have that high stats you will also be matched with similar stats people so you will never one shot them, I can tell from experience as I have done pvp in this game at 250-350 level and got a match every few seconds for whatever reason. The only thing thats legit instant kill no matter what is inescapable frenzy.

Ok but at 99 dex and 99 arcane he should also have low vigor and he would also die easily unless we're talking incredibly high levels which no one would reach or even engage at pvp

Your initial response led me to assume YOU didn't know what soft caps were as you just pointed out the hard caps (which if we ARE talking about soft caps is irrelevant)
