Melee vs Magic
Started the game off as pure melee. I really had a rough play through and needed a buddy most of the time for boss fights. I spent 9 hours on one boss. Another boss, 5 hours. Just an example of my pain. I beat the game and started a new character to see the magic side of the house. I have one shot almost every boss I have come across. Most boss fights are only about 10 seconds. This is insane how overpowered magic is or under powered melee is, however you want to look at it. With magic I’m 1/3 through the game in two nights and melee took me 150 hours or so. With them nerfing shield barricade I couldn’t imagine playing melee now. I feel like I’m playing easy mode. My buddy and I both started melee characters both with different “meta” builds, and now both doing magic. Man we are busy just laughing our asses off about how easy magic is.

Not really a complaint, I love this game. Just more of a observation more than anything.

Melee is fine. Learn to dodge, parry, block. If you haven't played other games like that you might struggle at start. If you spend 9 hours on one boss and/or need coop to beat it - then ... you are doing something wrong. Or are horribly mistiming your actions, or fat rolling, or idk.

Magic on the other hand - ranged by nature and along with summons, some ashes _and_ coop available on top - is indeed ridiculously overpowered and has no place in this game. They shouldn't nerf/balance it. They should rip it off.

That's how it's always been in these games, actually.

Huh I had far more problems with a magic build than with my usual melee builds. But thats just me probably who plays these games mostly with melee weapons.

I seriously doubt you almost 1 shot most bosses. Magic Is strong but not that strong.

magic builds take alot of grind before going agro. you need to build int and mind with some faith and arcane. like was level 168 before i dared to take on rodahn. need that 70int 50mind 40vigor other stats may vary. but i had 36faith at that point and 18arcane for the dragon spells and mix baggage spell requirements. str20 dex14 just to use bows for the grind spot and use the night and flame sword.

In my opinion, magic is extremely useful, but nowhere near overpowered. I'm a mage main, still in my first playthrough after 130 hrs into the game. Magic brings the awesome utility to attack safely from a distance, but it doesn't make enemies (or bosses) less aggressive. Many also have input-reading dodges. Plus, when you focus on magic you are generally more squishy, and this game has a strong tendency to oneshot you if you're not above 40 vigor; sometimes I even feel that magic is harder because you have less room for mistakes or to counter bs moves.
All in all, I would say that both melee and magic have their ups and downs. But nowhere near "overpowered, bosses go down in one shot". I have yet to do damage that massive.

Well.. I tried a lvl 140 70 int.. some faith .. vigor yada yada azur comet build. Was okay if you have a punching bag ready so you can spam azur with unlimited fp flask. Other than that... it's pfalanx and pebble spam. With some adula moonblade inbetween and moonweil for some close quarter action.

I did most of the left over content after the endboss with it.. and I wasn't amazed except on torrent. Deleting open world stuff while on torrent is awesome.

magic is not op. most magic spells deal garbage damage. that thing you see comet azur takes a long time to cast. it only works in co-op. most bosses wont just stand there and eat that ♥♥♥♥ if you are playing solo. cool thing about magic is you dont need to get to butt distance with the boss. but that doesnt mean you dont need to dodge since they will quickly get close to you.

When people say 1 shot they mean they beat them on their first try, not that they beat them in a single attack.

then they dont know what 1 shot means. one shot means killing or getting killed with one hit.

Not in this context.

Ytd, after "You Have Died" for more then 20 over times with melee, i decided to activate multiplayer. Some random mage just Comet Azur Commander niall to death while i just managed to nearly kill one of the summon knight. I think magic is OP.

But, melee is fun! lol
