Tips on using Colossal Sword ?
Hey fellow Tarnished. Perhaps you know your way with the weapon and could share some game play footage on PVE? I'm more interested in good old melee that is not dependent on overpowered buffs. I switched to a Zweihander from straight swords and I'm really having a hard time getting safe hits on bosses and enemies that poise through damage. Thanks!

R2 is your friend to stagger and break posture. You have quite the range with your attacks, so you don't have to get so close. The openings to hit bosses are rather small at points, especially since lots of them have endless spam combos. I beat the game with collosal weapons mostly, pizza cutter and Zweihänder. Your R2 lowers your overall shape so you can actually attack certain enemies while they also attack you due to your lowered hitbox.

Not sure about colossals specifically, but I've used flails, greatswords, and greataxes... and in all 3 cases, jumping R2 attacks are the go-to move. Almost as fast as a basic R1, much more damage and posture disruption, and once you get the hang of it you can dive in and out of reach.

As previously mentioned, jumping R2 attacks are very much your friend, but also the block+R2 counterattack after an attack hits your shield is phenomenal.
There are huge amounts of enemies that it will just instakill if you land it, and if it doesn't kill them outright it almost always puts them into a stagger state where you can riposte them to finish 'em off.
I use colossal swords (currently also Zweihander) and what helped me alot was to use tower shields, since it's a STR based build anyway.
These shields give you alot of opportunities to attack after their hits staggered them by hitting your shield.

Enjoy because fs didnt care about colossal swords and most bosses dont even give you any save openings because they will be ready to attack you before you end your first swing. From what Ive seen your save attack is one after roll(bee sting). Its fast enough but dmg on it is awful.

Jump attack
Roll attack
Crouch attack
Block counter-attack
Get the Ballista in Weeping Peninsula (or the cannon)

Read a guide that said use Warcry and talismans that boosts roars/heavy attacks, but that really only works for early game mobs. No hyper-armor so I get staggered out of that kind of heavy attack everywhere else. Not sure what the best ashes of war is for colossal swords.
