*SPOILERS* The door that only opens while not wearing armor
SPOILERS AHEAD

So, I went to the bottom of the Subterranean Shunning Grounds, and entered the Frenzied Flame Proscription area.

After doing some platforming accompanied by the sound of violins, I reached the bottom.

I see that devilish door, I think "great phat lewt inside". I didn't know how to open the door, but the messages left by other players made it clear that in order to open the door you have to wear no armor.

So I remove all armor and open the door. My character immediately proceeds forward and gets hugged by Three Fingers, inheriting the frozen flame. While I understand that my character misses Fia's hugs, shouldn't there be an option to choose if I want to inherit the frenzied flame like that???

Jokes aside, it is a lame move by FromSoft. I mean you are not given the option to choose when to inherit the frenzy flame.

P.S. After researching, I know I can remove the flame, but I just got annoyed by the fact that Melina left me for a choice that was not clear.

You are warned multiple times of this action. Do you speak to your quest NPCs? Even Melina warns you about doing this.

Ah yes, you knew exactly what you're getting into and now you're upset the game didn't put you through ten different confirm/cancel dialogs.

For note, Melina tells you not to seek the three fingers at sites of grace near them. Multiple times.

so you looked up everything to get through the door but neglected to look up the repercussions. fair.

This exactly.

Yeah, you said everything on this issue. It could have done with a choice before you get it, but as you can remove it at anytime it's at most a minor inconvenience. NPCs tell you about it, but it's not exactly clear that that is what happens right after opening the door.

You'd expect a talk prompt before the Three Fingers, basically, as your choice to interact with them would be made then and there - as was said, you wouldn't know that the Fingers are right behind the door, they could just as well be three rooms down, sitting on a throne or whatever.

On the positive side, it's something that happens to everyone once at most.

You are right.

But to be frank, I didn't sit at the bonfires at all, I just "activated" them without sitting. So I wasn't warned at all.

But I still think it would be better to see where I was getting into. I really had no idea.

Self inflicted wound.

Well put.

At least this incident reminded me something important: That I should remember to backup my saves (To avoid save corruption that is... totally unrelated to this).

Shame on me for neglecting it.
