why do the npcs cheat?

the impossible ♥♥♥♥ they do sometimes. its just stupid.
its like playing the claw skill tester game at the arcade.
how can 1 npc decide to knock you down, follow up stab wide sweep. all inside 1 second because why ? wtf

This shocked me since the game otherwise ran flawlessly. The first fix I saw was to try running the game in Borderless Windowed mode. I tried it, and lo and behold, I was downing foes with normal weapons as my character actually responded when I needed it to.

i am shocked too. what the hell? i just had combat where i could actually dodge his tells, or if i did get hit. react to the next... um this is like night and day.

You can absolutely "Go supersayan" (sic even for a fictional term) in this game, there are many buffs from either items, spells, or the Great Rune system. You can cheese your enemies as much as they cheese you. White Face in the hidden bloodswamps? There's literally a semihidden ledge, some nice fellow marked "Here!" already, and if you just STAND on that ledge he will jump over you to his death. An otherwise very hard fight due to his intense Blood based build, which you can have right after beating his red phantom. Even if you "cheated" (Read, USED THE GAME MECHANICS SUCCESSFULLY.)

There's literally a shield/art for that. The Tree Sentinels all have this, which is why using magic on them is a direct form of suicide.

im on pc. im not in combat. i press shift. it instantly rolls i have not even taken my finger off shift. now go into a boss fight. tell me its when i release. oh ok .
in combat. it just rolls whenever it wants. press dodge. no doge. waiting. oh now it wants to leap. wait i took my finger off dodge 2 seconds ago. yet few seconds ago i did a doge where i pressed shift, didnt even get time to remove finger. and it rolled. so inconsistent.

What about my ♥♥♥♥?

I am also on PC, but I own an 8bitdo and play games that use controllers more effectively than M/KB with it, as one frankly should. If I want to play Elite, I use my HOTAS, I don't ♥♥♥♥♥ the M/KB controls are bad like some child. Some games control correctly via certain ways. This goes very strongly for something like an RTS, but I can say goes for this game. You REALLY want to do strong attacks with a command combo like you're trying to do work in a professional program? Be my guest, I'll leave that for FL Studio, Vegas, or Starcraft. If I'm playing a Fromsoft game, I can't imagine one without a controller other than maybe Armored Core. That, I would pair with a HOTAS.

There are a nice amount of "gimmicks", but each gimmicked out enemy has an equal gimmick weakness. Slap giants with sleep, they go down way faster. Dragons? If you're R1ing their legs, you'll never win, but start jump R2ing, and fullcharge R2ing their head when you can, and you'll break their stance more often than PvP gets broken by Deathblight builds.

Since Demon's Souls onward, these games have been EXTREMELY FAIR in combat, it's absurd to me any of these zoomers complain when it could've still been ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SHADOW TOWER (PSX 1998). Fun game, but I reasonably would agree with anyone here complaining that it controls like ass in sludge, and plays like ♥♥♥♥ in ♥♥♥♥.

They are definitely a tough time, I am glad the game has as many as it does, unlike some others. Go look up "Kalameet Dark Souls" on youtube or something. In fact, look up Kalameet King's Field. Fromsoft has REALLY improved dragon fights.

What exactly happened there? If he went down because you got a critical strike in then you should know he (most enemies really) get I frames as they pick themselves back up. You get a couple options here, charge a heavy for when he fully stands up then be ready to dodge
or block his follow up. Or make distance and heal/ prep grease or throwing weapons. You should be able to pepper Margrit with some poison throwing knives throughout the fight, they throw quickly and will deal a good amount of damage over time once he gets poisoned enough. That is all I can offer with the available info. Goodluck man!

Edit also saw you're having issues with the dodge. I use M&K too and dont have any problems. Do you use a wired or wireless keyboard? Is it old?

DS2 and Bloodborne had much more broken NPC invaders. Elden Ring's aren't nearly as bad, they can still dish out some damage and have stupid amounts of HP but they are much easier to bait and exploit than the other games, thanks mainly to broken battle arts and jumping attacks.
