Man, seriously? Every single guide I read on doing that quest stated simply to just not finish Crumbling Farum Azula, not "don't get there". Your response makes the most sense since I found Goldmask's helmet and Corhyn's bell where he was supposed to be in the capital. That sucks, why would telling the guy where Goldmask is lock out the quest, but not telling him is fine. What a weird condition.

Informing Cohryn of Goldmask is essential for the quest line I believe, atleast I’ve always told him and I’ve never failed it that way.
If you failed the quest line brother corhyn’s body would likely be found, and not outright gone.
