Greatbow PVP in a sad state.
I swear I've pushed the damage to the limit on this thing but there must be some sort of damage cap to prevent people from being 1-shot in PvP. I played PvP all day today and got maybe 2 legitimate wins with +10 Radahn's Greatbow with the special arrows. I was really hoping it would be able to just 1-shot dudes with a clean shot.

I'm level 140, buffed myself with Relic Sword Talisman, Niall's Standard buff, Flame Strength spell, and Radagon Soreseal. I have the absolute works on this bad boy, I even went pure glass cannon with 80 Str and 80 Dex but it barely breaks 1k damage on most players, and since 99% of players are running minimum 40 vigor they can just brush it off and heal. Doesn't help that walking while drinking your flask makes the follow up shot miss. In fact any lateral movement whatsoever causes the shots to miss.

Why even bother trying to do unique builds in PvP when you can simply run Moonveil and Rotten Breath like everyone else and just win the invasion in 10 seconds? Does anyone know any way to make the greatbow viable again? Are there more damage buffs I could get? I wish we had some sort of exploding greatarrow or something because dodging the bow is literally child's play. Either that or bring back the talisman that turns you invisible from far away without having to crouch so I can atleast have the element of surprise or something

And may I ask why are you trying to one shot people with a greatbow? What do you mean viable again? Greatbows have never been able to one shot people

The greatbow has always been a secondary weapon

Why would it ever make sense to be able to one shot a decently leveled opponent from range? If you shoot them off a cliff, sure, but straight up? That would be recklessly OP lol, even more so than moonveil

I'd say one of your larger mistakes is trying to play at level 140. At that point players have the ability to be pretty heavily invested in Vigor along with their damage stat. It'd probably work a lot better if you played it at a bit lower level, something like 70-80ish.

At least this way you might be able to pop some casters.

as I understand , this game has a machanic "Headshot" that boost damage for bow for shoot the player's head ?

You're missing two of the most important talismans.

Arrow's Reach and Arrow's sting. Both of them are designed for more range/more power. The other more important factor, are you hitting the head, or just body shot?

If you do everything to be a glass cannon for a great bow you should 100% be able to one shot players. Its very very easy to dodge

Tbh if you let yourself get hit by a greatbow you deserve to be one shot and certain spells can almost one shot so why not

Prob should be a lower level though

Maybe it would kill with a headshot

Definitely not a cap. I've one shot people before.
Probably because they were running low vigor meta, in which case being one shot is deserved

Was planing to make a greatbow build like back in ds3 but seeing this is making change my mind, might just stick with a crossbow

edit: i don't remember ever being able to one shot someone with a greatbow at high level but it was still a viable pvp weapon in ds3, it just took longer to master than other weapons, it was good for invasions and 2v2 duals etc

I can't think of a time greatbows were "viable" unless a bridge or other death pit was involved nearby.

*flashbacks to throwing out his dragonslayer weapon attempts in favor of the mocked by community as trash split damage knight's crossbow (hand size, dropped on high wall) to turn phase 1 namless king into duck hunt in DS3*

Good discussion in here. I don't think it would be OP to one shot someone if you're getting a headshot and you're building specifically as a glass cannon. There are spells that basically one shot you and moonveil exists so I don't want to hear anyone complaining about a greatbow one shotting someone if I specifically build into that. I was extremely disappointed in Jar Cannon's damage too but I may revisit that too once I get the other buffs. For those stumbling upon this I will be trying again at the lowest possible soul level to equip the greatbow.

I also found out that Golem Greatbow has the highest base damage and is the only GB that can get higher than D scaling. I'll be doing a new game and gathering up all the buffs again and see if I can get some fun invasions set up for Raya Academy or something.

How are greatbows in low level invasions?
