Yeah, I was going to say neither, because no cleaves. I actually stuck with the Lordsworn's Greatsword until Castle Mourne because even though I got most/all of the weapons before there, none were really a good upgrade until the Grafted Greatsword, with Bloodhound's Fang also being good and taking runner up, but I got it later and already leveled GGS by then.
Spears do have the neat ability to strike while guarding, but it's very... well, it's not good for groups of mobs at all. It's good for turtling against a hard/new boss to learn their moveset, IMO.
Go up the elevator, hug the right wall and run past the big bonfire and ugly monsters, go around corner into room and it is in a chest to the left of the door as you enter.
But yeah. shield pokes are overrated unless you got a billion "way more than 25" endurance to tickle things to death. But it sure is a nice security blanket feeling when on say, rafters.
Honestly, I have 55 END right now and it is still not enough to make turtling very viable. It only gets worse as you progress. Even with a +21 greatshield, a given boss' 3 hit combo will eat all of my stam and leave me option-less. I've learned from that to be aggressive much more than defensive. Defensive in this game means using rolls tactically and then holding B/Circle to run the hell away and not get hit at all.
