Partisan or Great Epee?
Which is more befitting of a Vagabond / Knight?

Does the Epee even look right with a shield? I can't decide.

Do you like having swings in your moveset or not?

I rarely go through a full combo. I generally stop at 3 swings / stabs, so the one slash on the fourth hit of the Epee doesn't matter to me, either way. That said, they both have slashing heavies, which is useful on a stabbing weapon.

I'd give it a try as a back-up weapon, but you get that in a late-game area, don't you?

Yeah, I was going to say neither, because no cleaves. I actually stuck with the Lordsworn's Greatsword until Castle Mourne because even though I got most/all of the weapons before there, none were really a good upgrade until the Grafted Greatsword, with Bloodhound's Fang also being good and taking runner up, but I got it later and already leveled GGS by then.

Spears do have the neat ability to strike while guarding, but it's very... well, it's not good for groups of mobs at all. It's good for turtling against a hard/new boss to learn their moveset, IMO.

Epee is way cooler than a spear imo and fits a knight aesthetic very well. Plus, it builds stagger ridiculously well as far as gameplay is concerned.

Nah you get it from a chest in Morne Keep down south.
Go up the elevator, hug the right wall and run past the big bonfire and ugly monsters, go around corner into room and it is in a chest to the left of the door as you enter.

Thanks, I'll hunt it down, then.

I do like how it looks... And if it does a lot of poise damage, well.. I'll bump up my dex a bit to give it a try.

Videogame logic means even doing shield pokes with a pike struggles with rat HP scaling at times. But I do love the pike between my love of Lordsworn's style (I have no idea where I got my knight greatsword early game. to the early game giants drop them?( because the length of the pike makes it less likely to have guard counters miss by aiming over an enemy's head. And the strong charged will hit low flying bird man archers.

But yeah. shield pokes are overrated unless you got a billion "way more than 25" endurance to tickle things to death. But it sure is a nice security blanket feeling when on say, rafters.

Honestly, I have 55 END right now and it is still not enough to make turtling very viable. It only gets worse as you progress. Even with a +21 greatshield, a given boss' 3 hit combo will eat all of my stam and leave me option-less. I've learned from that to be aggressive much more than defensive. Defensive in this game means using rolls tactically and then holding B/Circle to run the hell away and not get hit at all.

Having the barricade weapon art would basically be mandatory if you actually want to block anything from later bosses, they have some insane combos and damage output per hit
