PSA: Manually back up your save file
I see a lot of discussions around losing progress due to a corrupted save file. Make backups!

You can find your save under "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\EldenRing\". Your save file is in the sub-directory made up of a list of numbers.

While the game is not running or you are at the title screen, copy "ER0000.sl2" and place it in a safe place. I highly recommend making a backup at least once a play session.

So glad I haven't run into this yet. Especially when I been zipping and going places where I shouldn't be yet.

if you want to go a step further, you can paste the following and save it as a .bat file on your desktop; easily backup your save by double-clicking it

cd %APPDATA%\
xcopy EldenRing "C:\ER backup\EldenRing\" /e /y
cd C:\"ER backup"
ren EldenRing "EldenRing %date%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%"

Linux users will find the Save data at this path:

[path to steam directory]/steamapps/compatdata/1245620/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/EldenRing

Steam Cloud saves are so ♥♥♥♥, I swear like a 3rd of the problems with saves are caused by the Steam Cloud system

And also verify game files after every patch!
