Becoming an elden lord - and then nothing?

I get this awesome end scene where I become an elden lord, and im like yeah i'm awesome. Then I get to new game + and have nothing to show for it. No new skills, items, abilities? Missed a mark there. I want to wield the power I just earned by beating the loch ness monster. - Those items are cool that you get, but we should have gotten something specific from becoming an elden lord.

Never has been like that in any other souls games. You simply start a new game with acquired gear and stronger enemies and thats basically it. It's the same game as before except you get ♥♥♥♥♥ slapped with your endgame build.

I was a bit disappointed sitting on the throne, so I got up, picked a fight with a Black Knife Assassin and accidentally repeated the Night of the Black Knives.

The difference is Mass Effect 3 promised more, the story and it's ending were the selling point. Souls games always end they're vague stories with a vague ending leaving the player/community to ponder the lore implications.

It's what I expected, but not what I hoped for. Having an actual author to help write the story, I was hoping to have a more narrative driven ending. At least we got real cutscenes in the game, but I'm still just as lost as ever on the story.

You are a Tarnished on a Quest to collect Great Runes and become the Elden Lord. You knew the ending was becoming The Elden Lord before you started the game lol

Nope, that's how From Soft NG => NG+ works. Congrats, you did the thing. The reward is the feeling of accomplishment; that is all. Wanna go to NG+? You are now no-one again but you're a no-one with a lot of schwag.
