how's the pace of combat ?
Hello ! I'm really tempted to buy this game, but i'm not sure i'll like the pace of the combat, tried to watch some gameplay, read forums but i can't find a clear answer. on one hand it feels more "modern" and fast paced compared to dark souls' games but on the other hand it still looks a bit clunky.
I only played dark souls 2 and absolutely didn't like it.
I LOVED nioh though, which has a much faster pace.
I enjoyed the combat of monster hunter world too ( if that counts )
I've heard fromsoftware's game tend to have faster pace with each iteration, so where does this game stand ? :p
Thanks for any help ! :)

Im mostly fighting the controls and camera in this game more than anything.

Its a shame I hoped for more, after Sekiro i was excited which i really enjoyed Sekiro even tough it didnt have much replayability compared to Nioh.

The game feels like a reskin of a 2009 game with some minor upgrades.

first 30-40h its a POG then its just boring as hell.
the only reason i didnt speedrun the late part of the game is cuz i still have a hope for some new content frome the *side* part of the game.

few times i was able to find some legit new bosses and enemyes but only few.
game hold the phase rly hard. like rly rly hard.

DS3 is superior on this part compare to ER

Pace is similar to DS3, but the combat itself is quite different.

In DS3 roll and light attack are the name of the game for a melee build. In ER special moves, jump attacks, charged attacks and stacking conditions like bleed become way more potent.

In fact I would highly not recommend doing the old DS3 roll&R1 combat - really inefficient in ER, I do way more jumping attacks than R1s in boss battles, for example.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

if u liked Nioh, then this is slower than Nioh, and like in Nioh they have pool of actions isntead of strict order what they repeat (like it was in DS). enemy attacks are in ER delayed, like it was in Nioh and especially in Nioh2.. it can surprise a bit.. but you know that from Nioh.
lot of DS players complain about how fast are bosses and unavoidable, etc.. but with Nioh experience u will be fine.

about "clunky" combat
there is few things
1) dodge on release and not on press
2) input queue (evil feature :D ) ,,basically when ur mashing buttons, then second action go in queue and when is done first action, then it automatically do next action..
its not that horrible how it sounds..
for example when you attack and you mashing that attack, then it make first attack animation - in that moment u realize that you want dodge - but it continue with second attack ;)

you can get used to

watch maybe more gameplay

but by my opinion is ER awesome.. and Nioh and Nioh2 are my fav games.. DS feels like slowmotion, ER is ok

Elden Ring feels like Sekiro but you're still Dark Souls 1. The bosses are overtuned and insanely fast while your character is still a clunky POS from the PS2 era. I say this as a huge fan of Fromsoftware games and I have never played a bad game from them, including DS2. However, Elden Ring's bosses are just plain BS, I already gave up on replaying this and will never touch it again.

It's faster than dark souls 1 and 2. It does feel slightly faster than 3, but I might be wrong about that. The combat is definitely much simpler than nioh. Nioh is a mixture of both souls like gameplay with the added complexity of a character action game, like ninja gaiden. I would say it feels more like monster hunter than it does feel like Nioh, but that doesn't mean it feels the same as monster hunter. Elden ring is the simplest one out of the bunch for sure, both monster hunter and nioh have more complex combat. You should give it a try, if your issue with dark souls 2 was it's speed, you might enjoy the game, but if your issue with ds2 was its complexity than it might not be the game for you.

Still I would say try the game out for an hour, if you aren't enjoying it you can just refund it. You might also enjoy sekiro more than elden ring.

I would say it's very much a dark souls type game. As a MHW fan, I'd also say it's slow like that, but much less forgiving.

aight thanks for the info ! more variety of moves is also what i liked in nioh compared to DS, so that's a good point for elden ring :p

thanks for your reply, it's very helpful and most people seem to agree with that so I guess elden ring will be a hard pass for me. i might finally buy sekiro though, I always hear good things about this one !
