Summon Ashes

I think I missed something, or there's some mechanic at play that I miss. I have the summoning bell, plenty of summons available to try. Hell, stuck on a boss (Elemer) I've checked some videos on it. And like most of the times I've checked up on hard boss videos people summon in spirits to take aggro. 90% of the I can't summon at all.

It's gotten to the point where I've done the vast majority of bosses in this game completely alone.

So is there something I'm supposed to be doing? Why can't I use these summons ever?

To add info: I don't mean player co-op. I understand the furl finger mechanic. I mean the spirit ashes that summon blue ghosts.

You need to equip the summon spell into either pouch or belt and then use it to summon when there is a summon symbol in the bottom left. You cant summon just anywhere you need to have that symbol.

check the magic cost, you might not have enough for some of them

You must be near a rebirth monument to summon spirits from ashes.
Rebirth Monuments are stone obelisks founded at many Points of Interest and almost every boss arena as well.
When you are close to a Rebirth Monument and able to summon, a monument icon will appear on the left side of the screen.

If you are using Furlcalling Finger Remedy to play online/co-op spirit ashes wont work.

While Furlcalling Finger Remedy is active, player wlll be unable to use Spririt Summons via the Spirit Calling Bell

It's not a cost issue, I've verified that the summon costs less than my total FP pool. And that's just it I don't HAVE the little grave summon symbol in the bottom left. But other people do, apparently. I'm asking here because every article is the same copypaste "Get the summoning bell." drivel. I understand you can't summon everywhere, but when I can literally google the fight and watch half a dozen videos of players summoning spirits on a fight I LITERALLY can't, even the lowest cost summons. There's some other issue at play.

Make sure you aren't using a furlcalling finger remedy. Even if you are in the boss room the remedy will remain active you must use it again to deactivate it.

Are you activating the summon stones for every single new area and dungeon you go to?

This. You can use the summon sign thong to send your sign to the summon pool and then use it again to cancel it and that will remove the fuel calling buff if you have it active

If you are "furled" the grave Stone will never show. Use the item again, it'll say are you sure? Say yes and the look for the grave Stone.
