Light roll is pointless
Much like in DS3. Not noticeably any faster than the mid roll, and requires massive sacrifice in defense to get not much in return.
I was struggling with keeping enough health and flasks and finding chances to flask, for the endurance match that is Radagon and the Elden Beast, but then I put on my heaviest gear that I could wear without fat rolling, and it became SO much more manageable.

Testing is still being done but it covers a longer distance than a mid roll and happens faster, but has the same amount of i frames seemingly as a mid roll, meaning a higher percentage of frames in the dodge between button press and animation end are i frames. Having light equip load also increases your general movement speed proportionately to how low the % is, up to about a 10% increase, which also translates in to more distance on jumps. On top of this, you take reduced fall damage with lower equip load.

I liked light roll in DS3 but it feels far less meaningful here compared to medium roll. The extra distance and positioning meant a ton in DS3 because of how enemies and bosses were designed. However, in Elden Ring many enemies and most bosses have extremely competent ability to pursue in engagements, almost immediately after you dodge and gain space, not to mention many bosses are actually safer to hug than to get distance from even for Estus use. Enemy/boss design seem to largely invalidate the benefit of a light roll. I've not noticed any real difference in iframes, either, when bouncing back and forth between the two.

Very difficult to achieve light jump but distance is always important. If some enemy boss charing on you - you can just dodge 3times rather than extra dodge because you are medium. But its still not good enough to invest so much in endurance to justify the roll.

doesn't it roll further and have longer i-frames?

That cant be true, wheres the evidence for this?

Light roll has 3 more I frames. So the OP post is invalid. You can also dodge some attacks that a normal roll can not dodge through due to those frames. Like breath attacks and some longer active frame attacks.

it was like that in ds3 and people speedrunning take their armor off so i guess it is about right

Playing the game? Look up "Lord of Blood cheese exploit". Having a lower equip load allows you to jump far enough to clear the distance from the top of the obelisk to the top of the wall. People trying to do it with heavier load aren't able to make the jump, so everybody just drops all their armor and then re-equips when they clear the ledge.

There's plenty of other examples of this in action but that's the only one I know off the top of my head where dropping equip load visibly allows you to clear a jump you can't with more load.

Light roll gains even with what little they do now would be more impressive if these devs did not continue their "arbitrarily more heavy than sensible" trends across every single game.

I see people whining and crying about the fingerprint shield in PvP I can't even lift because it has a 48 STR req and weighs like, 29 "Literally heaviest shield known in the wiki" pounds all by itself.

But once you start talking ♥♥♥♥ about how the cloth bandanna over your mouth bandit mask is 3.0 nearly as much as the average cheap metal helmet. Or how cloth banages weigh multiple pounds over some gloves, everyone crying about heavy gear in PvP suddenly starts U turning into "Oh no, weight is sensible, you just do not want to invest in managing your equip load and it is very deep that raggedy footwraps weight more than half of your boots+pants combos because-"

Which isn't even getting into the more shameless stuff.
"This torch is made of metal, it has a skill where you breath fire with it, so it weighs more"
"Yeah, makes sense."
"THIS wooden torch has incense that makes basic rats scared to attack you. It weighs more."
"What."
"The torch you don't have yet that will let you see ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ invisible assassins is five pounds. People will talk ♥♥♥♥ to you if you don't have the torch and find them annoying later."
"That is more than my mace. Now you are just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with me."
"Do you want us to add an equip load to the lantern, ♥♥♥♥♥?"

Light Rolling died with the Darkwood Grain Ring.
