These "masterpiece" 10/10 reviews are bs
No way any of these people played till the end. The game starts off amazing with what is probably the best open world in history of gaming so i can understand why they would say this preemptively, but after reaching late game the magic starts wearing off quickly only to be completely destroyed when at end game IMO.

Over half the bosses in the game are reskins or duos of the same boss, the amount of times you're gonna fight the same damn dragon only with a different element is ridiculous, there are only 2 types of dungeons repeated endlessly just with a different layout, once you reach late-endgame the boss design just becomes ridiculous and not in a good way, most of the fights are designed in a way where players are supposed to "abuse" every op mechanic the game has (there's a reason why almost everyone uses mimic tear +10), and not as a proper fight of skill, the fights just become bosses spazzing out around the whole place bombarding you with aoe's and barely giving you any opening. Yes there are amazing players out there that can do it naked and not get hit even once but thats an ultra minority, majority of people will just resort to figuring out a way how to cheese it.

So boss recycling like in Sekiro.

Agree with OP 100%.
To my mind, i would rate the game 8/10.

Even just looking at the beginning, there are too many issues (even putting aside the technical ones on PC) to say it's a 10/10.
I enjoy the game a lot, but the menus alone deserve 0.5-1 points taken from the score.
Not to mention some wierd decisions like making low grade smithing stones more annoying to get than higher ones and making a droprate-boost item only optainable in a late area while at the same time putting stuff like meteor staff just a few minutes from the starting area.

I'm about to begin journey 3, and I give it a 10/10. But I knew what kind of game I was buying, and it delivered on what I was expecting plus a lot more.

All reviews, no matter what they are, are BS.

That stupid harassment campaign thinly veiled as "we only want ethical games journalism..." poisoned discussion surrounding reviews so completely that people unironically think that there's some magical completely bias-free template to report only on the most object facts of video games.

All reviews are, and all they have ever been and ever will be, is the personal, subjective reporting of the experience the reviewer had with a game. Review scores are just as subjective, what 10/10 means to one person is completely different to what 10/10 means to somebody else. The method at which a person scores a game is as unique as the person doing the score. There is no possible way to make a review bias-free without sounding like "Elden Ring Is a Video Game. It was made by FromSoftware. You fight enemies. You level up. It is an RPG. It runs on code and computer hardware."

Every review is inherently formed from the biases and subjective preferences we hold as individuals.

If you don't think Elden Ring is 10/10 masterpiece? Fine! But that doesn't mean that somebody else can't think that, and it doesn't make your opinion any more or less valid than theirs.

Limgrave? Awesome, well crafted, well thought out encounters/NPC quest chains and locales.

Raya lucaria? Meh
Altus? Meh
Lyndell? Awe inspiring the moment you step onto the balcony and see it for the first time, but meh.
Mountaintops? Same as the feeling of limgrave, it's where the devs started to care again.

I'd give it a 9. Theres some silly design choices and bugs that need to be worked out (flame aoe + status effect weapons I'm looking at you) but the game itself is amazing.

That is what we were saying a week ago. But people take those critics as some trolling.

most reviews are done by some amateur journalists who have no interest in games and yet for some reason they are doing game review wich seems really stupid most reviews like that are coming from IGN the best one was cyberpunk reviewed by IGN now that was gold

By the last half of the game everything hits so hard and spams attacks so fast that you have to just cheese practically everything, bosses or not. It seems pretty clear that the game was so big that they didn't really play test and balance the latter half of it. I'm ~90 hours in and I'd say I've actually enjoyed playing maybe half of it. The game design is like the community, it's so far up it's own rear end that it can't recognize that the difficulty is obnoxious and causes the game to get in its own way more often than not.

Finally people are too afraid to say anything bad about this game. It's a solid 7/10 game but not a 10/10 masterpiece.
agreed, maybe a 8 out of 10 if everything else was perfect. Performance aside the M+K controls are no good and just for that I't can't possibly get a perfect score IMO. also weapon movesets are shared between too many weapons. and some weapons are in the wrong category such as the zweihander.

it's a good game, which is a high bar for recent big name releases
that might be part of the reason why people enjoyed it so much
if you've been reviewing garbage for the past few years, any good game seems like the second coming of christ
Pixel Mar 13, 2022 @ 1:12pm
I'd give it an 8/10 due to bugs, poor balancing, bad mp servers, and performance issues. Definitely don't think it's a masterpiece as God of War was amazing as a game and far better than this.
